Got my 14 tooth sprocket

After reading through a thread a while back about how crazy scary a 14 tooth sprocket felt I decided I'd give it a shot. I wouldn't say the bike feels any faster, or has any more power, and the only thing I can tell is the gears are shorter and you have to shift more. No real gain. The front end does come up a bit easier, but you still have to clutch it. RPM's are quite a bit higher at highway speeds, and just to keep up you need to be around 7500-8000. It did raise my top speed though and it makes it easier to get there, I stopped at 180, but could probly see 190.
Overall, I've gotta say, it isn't worth the time, money or effort. And I'll be changing back to the stock 16 tooth when I have the time. Does anybody wanna buy a 14 tooth sprocket?

Go to a 15t...  It's half of each...  You get a little more pickup, but don't sacrifice much on the RMPs/Shifting front.

Even with stock gearing the bike needs to be past 7000 rpm for any sort of decent acceleration. The 14T just makes it a lot easier to get there.

What year bike?
How much?
Common sense in not very common.

my first mod right after a bought it was from 16 to 15. a slight andvantage on the sporty side, a bit more to the fuel usage and its comfortable around the city. :thumb:

I've been very pleased with the 15T, and I like it even more with a slightly larger than stock rear tire (140/70/17). It does a lot better in town and on the freeway for acceleration, but the RPMs on the freeway aren't ridiculous at all.

Yeah the sprocket does not magically add power. Sorry to burst your bubble there.

What it does is change torque multiplication.

By lowering the gears you are spinning more RPMs at a given speed. More RPMS = happier GS.

If you want an instant crazy hit of power just go get NOS. (I'm actually playing with that idea....)

I was looking for a 15 tooth front sprocket also when i found this. Im not interested in buying it but just wondering am i reading this right, is this a 13 tooth for the gs?                  http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Afam-Sprocket-Suzuki-GS500-94-05-Front-13-520-110_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ10066QQihZ001QQitemZ110002671971QQrdZ1

Haha, I know it doesn't magically add power, I'm not an idiot  ;)
It gives the engine more leverage relative to the rear wheel. It just didnt live up to the hype though.
The bike is a 99 and I dunno 20 bucks plus shipping? I'm in southern Ontario. I might leave it on for a little while longer just to get a better feel for it. I just thought people should know it's not as crazy as some make it out to be.

Thanks anyway. I can order one for $13+shipping.

Keep in mind.. he's in Ontario.. That could be 20 CDN, which is 17.6429076 USD... Which is still  high. Plus shipping from Canada to the US... which, if it's anything like shipping from the US to Canadia [sic], sucks..

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

You still have to keep the RPMs up. Just give it a lot more throttle. Basically, ride it harder, it will appreciate it more.

Sorry man, had to deal with so many newbcakes lately I just made an ass-out-of-you-and-me (assumed.)

Yeah lower gearing isn't for everyone.

I want to find a way to put enough power down to pull redline in top with stock gearing.

YES!
I wonder how much power this would take? Mabye one of you engineering types knows?

The sprocket listed for 28.99 CND. They gave it to me for 24 cause I know the guys at the shop. Sorry I couldnt help you out though.
