So I did my second track day and figured I'd capture some of it on my miniDV camcorder for my wife and kids to enjoy.  This was my fourth street group session of the day.  I was fiddling with my camera in the pit just as the session started and I asked all the rider's to pass me.  I spent the next 13 minutes catching them.

Note, absolutely no passing at *all* during turns as per track rules in the street session.   I had to wait until the few straights or until I harassed some of the litre bikes enough to let me pass.  The first 4-5 minutes are not that interesting.  It's slightly more entertaining to watch me chase the R1 around for a lap or two, trying desperately to pass just before the next turn but not wanting to risk the pass into the turn.  And wow, watching the R1 take off in the straights is pretty amazing.  However, the rider would shave off way more speed than necessary going into the turns.  Anyways, after he let me pass I did manage to pick up the pace the rest of the session.

It's only my second track day so I still suck, but it was fun none-the-less.  If you've got 13 minutes to waste, click here!

Looked like a lot of fun, I sure wished there was a track close to me that was open for public, but all I know of is a run what you brung 1/4 mile strip about 45 min. from home.

Yeah and it seemed like a lot of those other guys were wearing there candy pants, if I could get on a track like that i would be trying to get rid of that last 1/4" of my chicken strips, some of those guys looked like they were just on a Sunday afternoon cruise, they were not even hardly leanning there bikes over!
Being naked was great, but now that I'm older I thought I should cover up!!!!

Mods?  What mods, no really its stock!!

I keep forgetting that it's not a GS, because if it was being on left side of the tach = grandma.

BTW what were you on?

Dude, you do not suck, I didn't see you overcook any corners or come in stupid slow either.

Your braking looks like it was timed very well. I have trouble with that.

If you're anywhere near nevada let me know, we'll have to do a track-day together. Granted the GS isn't super beast like your bike, but I won't go down easy.
Rich, RIP.

hahaha, if its anything like my 600rr the tach needle doesnt reach vertical till it hits 11k rpm...then mine still has 4,500 to go...

Yeah.  I don't get it either, given that some of them had completely done up bikes -- vortex rearsets and clip on's, high mount exhaust and knee pucks that had been worn down on the street?!  But as soon as we hit the turns it was painfully slow to be behind them.  I'm really hoping after a few more sessions at the track I can get bumped to the intermediate group where passing through turns (on the outside) is allowed.

Heh, yeah.  I tried not to let it drop below 6K, but really that's not good enough.  I should be going into those turns closer to 10K or more, but I'm still working on my lines and late braking, so my gear selection suffered.

'01 CBR600F4i.  I probably would have been riding my GS500F today if my wife didn't get into motorcycling.  She wanted to start on the GS, so I figured she could have mine and I could try something else.  As it turned out the GS didn't fit her well even after I lowered it.  She decided to start with a Virago 250 which was also replaced by a Ninja 250.

Absolutely!  I was a trackoholic after my first time, and plan on doing tracks south of the border in '07.
