Anyone buy tire in brithe last couple years? This winter i have to replace Both tires.  I am looking for a more grippy tire than the brigestone exedra g-550 tire.

The general consensus is that Pirelli Sport Demons are the grippiest tires available in the stock size.
Sorry, I won't answer motorcycle questions anymore.  I'm not f%$king friendly enough for this board.  Ask me at:

I've also heard many good things about the Sport Demons.  Gotta order a pair myself.

Also, GSJack's posts on tire are generally considered the best tire info you can get around here.  Try this thread.

Borak: How come Ogg use one spear, Borak need three?
Ogg: Not spear, caveman.

The Pirelli Demons, Metzeler Laseretecs, and Michelin Actives are the latest most up to date in sport touring bias ply tires that come in the GS500 OE sizes.  The Demons seem to be the most popular here and also on the EX500 forum and are probably the stickiest of the three.

The Lasertecs are nearly as sticky, I think they are almost as good as the Z4/Z2 and AV45/46 sport touring radials I ran in handling both in the wet as well as in the dry.  My current set of Lasertecs are nearing 10k miles and look like they will go another 1-2k, very pleased with the life.  I'm just going mostly on other's opinions on the Demons as I haven't run them myself, but there has been a lot of input on them.

So I'd say the handling edge to the Demons and the longer life to the Lasertecs.  Can't go wrong with any of these three if you find a good deal on them.  The Bridgestone BT45 and Dunlop GT501 are good tires but are getting a bit dated now, not as up to date as the other three.  Any of them are better than the Excedras.

Question:

What difference do grippier tires make?

I know the whole deal on the car but on the bike it just doesn't make sense to me.

I mean I can already use every inch of my Metzlers, do grippier tires just make it less likely to go south on me? That's the only thing I can think of.
Rich, RIP.

Yeah, basically grippier tires just give you more room for error. Even if you aren't all the way leaned over, your tire could potentially slide out because of crap in the road, the road surface, etc. Also, stickier in general = stickier when cold. It's a lot harder to outride the tires when they are warm than you would think, but it's also pretty easy to do when they are cold.
