I've had occasion lately to go over the schematics in the Clymer manual fairly closely lately.  You know, the book where they don't know which side of the bike things are on, or what parts belong to what year?

Anyway, on all the schematics (I think) there's a "passing switch".  Do I have one? Do you?

I do & thanks for asking.

I'm not sure if you do, but it would be on your left hand switch block. On the front of the switch block a little yellow lever with pass written on it. You sould be able to operate it with your index finger.

It's standard on European bikes, but few US bikes get them. Dunno why. It's just not our thing. If I flashed my brights while I was following someone they'd probably just think I was a jerk and deliberately NOT let me by.

You can put one on.  I could do it for a couple of dollars, but it would look ghetto.  Nice would cost a bit more.

US spec GSX-Rs have had them for a few years.  The left switchgear should fit on the GS, and with some wiring trickery it all go together and look quite stock.

hmmmnz

you could get gs switch gear sent from oz or nz, it'll be fairly cheap for you guys as your dollar is stronger than ours,
or from the uk, but your dollar isn't as mighty as the pound,

My sister's S40 and my friend's SV both have a passing switch...

I like to ride twisties at night (don't ask, I know... :icon_rolleyes:) and I'd LOVE to have one...

ukchickenlover

I can't really see the point of the switch. I never use it, it's easier just to flick the high/low beam switch with my thumb.

it's great to have when cars are entering your lane from a side road, they always see the s-40 and never  see the little gs with the bright colored jacket and a reflective vest.

If a car is entering your lane you sound the horn. I don't think flicking a light is really anough to get there attention quick anough.
