your chain life

i have just over 15k on the bike now, its the stock chain. many rides in the rain, clean and lube every 400-500 miles give or take a few.

now the only reason i think the chain is toast is that, every few links it doesn't sit all the way down into the sproket. so when this happens it jurks a little. like if i was runing over somthing that was makeing noise and chatering.

so to prevent burgering up the sprockets i have cut the chain to remove temtation to ride till my XW chain comes in. (rw chain brand 123$ )


so what is/was your chain life in the ranges above? give detals about the chain you have/had ect...

i got 30,000 miles out of the stock chain, it broke once at the link so bought another link, i barely cleaned it, and it had lots of stiff places on it.
i have replaced it now with a xlink chain, so i hope i get as many miles out of it as the standard

thats pretty funny, probably not a bad idea though

My original chain (AFAIK, bought bike w/ 7k mi) is at 18k + miles right now, ridden and taken care of about the same way you described.  I think a couple of the links are a bit tighter than the rest, so I'm considering a new chain, but it will probably be a winter maintenance thing for me.

I've averaged 15k out of most of my chains (non-oring on the 250, and o-ring on this bike).  So far, I haven't had to do any adjustments to my chain for the past 2000 miles, and I've been checking it every 500.

I also do ~15K. Non O ring chains dont last worth a crap. X rings are the best prolly. O rings are plenty good. They'd rust before its done anyway.

Endless O ring. Yes its got no end, ... when you buy and endless chain, they just send you ... and its like ... I mean its like they send you the middle of it, and you start pulling and its just going to endlessly keep comming.  ...
There by prompting the old usenet question - how do you ship an endless chain.
Much like why shaft drives cant wheelie or why spagthorpes dont get flat tires. OK they had wooden wheels. That's why.
