I just had the pleasure of trying on a Mesh Alpinestar jacket and man am i disapointed. The material is so thin and porous that i think its only slightly better than just wearing a denim jacket. In all honesty who wears mesh and do you really feel safe in it?

I wear mesh occasionally.

And I have reasonable expectations as to its protection.

how many feet do you think it last on a slide?

I wear mesh all the time during the summer. I crashed in 2005 wearing a mesh jacket. It held up enough to be used again for a while afterwards (albeit with a little bit of sewing) after an 80 foot slide. Mesh is surprisingly durable.

I wear mesh and I feel safe in it. I would defintely prefer to wear leather, and I probably will when it gets cold, but it's too hot in the summer and I'm not riding without SOME kind of protection.  :thumb:
No bike. =(

i wear mesh, an proud of it lol.  when its really hot theres no other jacket that im gonna force myself to wear other than mesh.  when it gets a lil cooler i always wear leather.

Summer time I always wear my mesh jacket.  Did a highside last year and it held up fine, the padding  and armor i the jacket will hold up much better than denim.  When the weather gets cooler then it's time for leather or textile.

I have a mesh jacket that I purchased when I bought the bike. I like it. It is a FirstGear all black one. Though I haven't worn in in many months. I am one of those T-Shirt guys.

I wear my mesh jacket when it's gonna be 80+.

It gets way too hot with only a t-shirt

My leather jacket comes out when it's gonna be under 70

My Mesh goes on as soon as it hits 75 or 80. Maybe we have more humidity, but I enjoy being cool. Like I said though, everyone that mesh surprises them with how durable it is after they crash. This is, of course, provided that the jacket has good armor and a high denier of matieral, and is of a reputable (and non-Joe Rocket) name.

Thats a really good point..

Here in sd its long highway commutes at relatively high speeds(70-90) so the chance of a long slide happening are pretty high. The mesh jackets seem to come with really heavy duty (LARGE) armor so it definately would help in terms of impact protection.

Easy riding :)

WTF is wrong with Joe Rocket!

In the right places, even under leather.
