I wear (or wore -  my bike just got stolen) a Joe Rocket mesh jacket.  I haven't crashed in it so I don't know how it would hold up but I feel safer wearing that than no jacket.  I have leathers for cooler weather, but can't even look at leather when it's over 85 degrees.

yea. i have a MOTO GP mesh. 3 layers of awesomeness. I wear it all year round. But I been noticing lots of guys out there with those back armors and arm guards? do those provide the same protection as mesh? Because I tired one of those things on and it breaths so much better than mesh on those 100+ days here in central CA

That's a hell of a deal, and I might be interested in that come October, but right now the highs are hitting 100 around here and I think I need a medium sized jacket; my suit size is a 38 Long, looking at the sizing charts with Alpinestars I think that's medium terrirory.

Yeah but you didn't answer the real question:

Jeans at minimum. Others will disagree, but jeans will help in a low speed accident.

Did your jacket come in yet?

tourmaster intake year round. it's already getting into the 110 degrees in the sun which would definitely not be comfortable with out air flow.

Jeans won't do jack squat in a low speed accident unless you mean 'low speed' to mean 5 mph and below.  I know this because I have crash tested them on pavement and asphalt many, many times.

I used to rollerblade (doing tricks, racing down hills and jumping stairs) all over campus back in college wearing a pair of thick 'skater' jeans (the ones with the big pant legs so that you can wear pads under them).  When I fell, I would routinely have scrapes, burns and cuts UNDER my jeans or through them.... and this is at speeds of ~15-30 mph.

Don't kid yourself.  The jeans I had were fairly thick... most jeans you get at the department store are thinner, looser weaves of denim which rip just as easily as a pair of khakis.

Jeans = no protection.  If you fall off your bike wearing jeans, then I guarantee that the jeans will be in better shape than your skin when all is said and done.

Yeah, I guess all MY experience is just crap compared to your vast knowledge, since EVERYTHING you say is right and no one else matters (or at least you seem to think so).

You'll have small rub marks, yeah, but it'd be far worse if your skin hit pavement directly. I can vouch for BOTH of those situations, and I have the scars to prove it.

In this case, yes.  Your experience is crap compared to my knowledge. I stand by what I said.  Jeans won't do anything for you at speeds above 5 mph (which is pretty much a standstill).

P.S.  I don't care how much experience you have or how cantankerous you get (which I see a lot more of from you these days during my few visits to this board).  If you're wrong, then you're wrong (and you are definitely wrong about jeans).

Egaeus

I have torn through good jeans and gotten rashed on a concrete basketball court.  I wasn't even on a bike, I was playing basketball.  They are not thick enough or durable enough to do anything to protect you in an accident unless you land on your leather wallet.

Sorry, I won't answer motorcycle questions anymore.  I'm not f%$king friendly enough for this board.  Ask me at:

I wear a Fieldsheer mesh (johnny cool) and its great, and quality stitching ...
I used to wear joe rocket mesh, sold it after 3 months of use, did not feel the stitching where all that great, smake for a mesh SHIFT jacket I bought and sold in the same month (mostly because teh mesh seemed VERY thin, compared to fieldsheer or joe rocket that is).. I wear leather perforated jacket under 80'F.

I have a Coretech HRX jacket, its a Leather/textile mesh hybrid, fits very good and is very cool. Here in South Florida it is now 11am and it is already 89 degrees out. If I was to wear leather I would pass out by the second stoplight! Mesh may not be as strong as leather but it is stronger the skin. Period.
