Then look across the border.

Might come out to be a tad bit more expensive.. but hey you got your GS500.

I was discussing this with a friend of mine and then i foudn this link on ATOT. ANyway you pay 3% tax, and since the bike already meets EPA regulation (refer: 2002 model). All Suzuki has to do is to write a letter saying it passes EPA.

NOw here is the fun part.. we CA boys are stuck.. we need 7500 miles or more to register in CA and plus i dont think canadian bikes have the CA EVap Canister on board (double check for us our brothers from up north).

This is interesting.. because I have plans of going to Europe for vacation in about 2 years (Well assuming I can get to CSUS and get my degree). The plan was to backpack my way on 2 wheels through Europe. I wanted to buy a bike there ride it and bring it back to the US.

I dont see a reason why not. HOwever your paying for your own bike and expenses.. (well we can split teh costs of room). It would be nice ot have riding company.

The plan was to do 9 - 11 countries in about a month or month and a half. Preferably start in Germany (prices there are better than in UK) and then go from there.

Well I better start saving up for this trip if I have to do it in about a year or year and a half (well aiming spring 2005 - better to go in spring/summer from what i heard - UK it rains all the time anyway). If I finish my school before that then Fall 2004.

I seem to recall that getting that letter of conformation isn't always so easy.  I looked into importing when I was trying to buy this old jetta turbo diesel from a K-Nad.  It was a few years ago, but I just remember at some point I decided it was too much of a pain in the ass and I gave up.
