thinking about getting a gsx 1300r (busa)

hi
im thinking about getting a busa next year and i have herd that they are very heavy making them harder to corner so how could i lighten it up and how light do u think i could make it

stock gsx 1300r 217kg
stock gs500f 180kg
stock gsx-r1000 166kg

The 'Busa is a sport tourer. It's built to do one thing very well: Go fast, preferrably in a straight line. Judging from what you posted here you wouldn't be too happy with that bike.

(Nor live too long, but that's another story.)

I have no idea how to get the Busa to handle better.  And Ghost Rider is an amazing rider, but I wouldn't classify him as nimble.

If flickability is your priority, then I would say the GSXR-1000 is a better choice for you.  Busas are basically drag bikes. They are heavy, powerful, and FAT.  Good handling isn't a design priority for that model.

Have you tried trolling any Hayabusa-dedicated forums for tips?

From your previous threads I doubt you'd be able to live through the first corner ,, these things are seriously fast and scare most riders that have been riding big bikes all their life.It will handle alright in standard form but they will never handle like a gixxer because they aren't supposed to they were developed in a wind tunnel for a reason to be the fastest bike ever built and that's about it , oh and yes they are heavy but when your on one at speed it feels like your on a freight train and corners will scare you because they arrive a lot sooner than you think .

For makeing it lighter you would be better off trying a busa forum.  Why not get an R1, GSXR 1K, 1000RR or Kawi's liter bike?  They would handle much better than the busa and are plenty fast.

Its easy to lighten it ... several hundred pounds in fact ... You could lose the motor ... and with your local dealers "warranty work" that happens what ... 4-6 months ... yea ...  :laugh: ...   Get a 600cc bike and when your abilities exceed the bike's abilities (which I don't think will ever happen), then ask your question again.

the busa already comes fairly light for what it is... Suzuki put a lot of effort into making it that way. I really dont think it's gonna get significantly lighter without going and buying something like magnesium wheels for BIG $$$$.

It seems like a really rash decision by a lot of people, but we all should keep in mind that people ride for different reasons and have different "dream" bikes.You may have wanted a busa for a long time. It that case- kudos for starting out on the GS and learning the ropes. There's still a lot to learn on the GS which will be much harder to learn on a bigger bike, but it's your decision.

The Busa really was made for one thing and one thing only: being the fastest in a straight line. For the extra power, you trade in a good amount of cornering ability. If you really like how the GS handles and want something more along the lines of that, look into the 600cc class, Ducati literbikes, the newer 1000cc Japanese bikes, or something in-between. I'd personally stay away from literbikes for now though.

If it were me, I'd lean more towards the 600cc class, gain a lot of experience on those, and then move up to a Ducati 9-something. There's no rush to jump right to the top.
For street riding, the busa is really only at home on the highway. Ride with some friends in the twisties & they'll smoke you (even a GS will). Ride with them on the highway and you might be faster, but it's only a matter of time before you get your license taken away because insane speeds is all the bike is really good for.

whatever you decide, just make sure it's really what you want. Any bike you purchase basically is-what-it-is. You wont be making any huge changes to it, especially weight-wise. Get the bike that best suits you and what you want to get out of riding, but keep in mind that eventually you'll want more than just raw acceleration in a straight line, and that you might feel more "comftorable" on a 600cc bike, but you'll never outgrow one. Comftorable is good. Even if moving up from just a GS, wanting a Busa but being concerned about its turning ability throws up a red flag to everyone because it could be a very rash decision. Yeah, liter bikes and smaller will corner better, but then you can't say that you have the fastest bike in the world. But I just read an article in cycle worls and apparently the new Kawasaki zx14 is slightly faster, so for braging rights you may want to re think your decision. Either way, I'm all for getting the fastest bike possible. Either on will go from 0 to death in about 8.2 seconds. Enjoy.

The Busa is like a muscle car, it's not meant to be light. It's meant to clobber everything else with brute horsepower.

That being said a modified GSXR can lay down more power per pound (or kg for metric folks) than a Busa.
