Shifting issues...

First off... let me say I'm new to this forum(new to the Suzuki's actually).  I know about the search feature, on probetalk.com it was the most used phrase actually... so I've come to know and use it.  I've riden my Brothers FZ6 alot, actually road tested on it and I sell Yamaha's for a living so bikes aren't new to me, really.  The FZ6 was the easiest Yamaha to ride but I'm not all that tall so the height of the GS is PERFECT.  Anyhow, my dilema... yeah.  I've seen in the last few days of riding, when I come into it off a turn(or any time I go from 5th to 6th real hard) it sits between gears and I rev like a moron.  I've never come across this with my old quads or other bikes.  Anybody know whats up?

False neutral.  It's usually caused by LLT.  I don't know if it has any other causes though.  I only know what I've worked on and read here, and I haven't torn into the engine yet.  You might try false neutral or lazy left toe in your search.

That might do it... I searched 'missing gears' 'missed shifts' 'shifting' things of those nature.  Thanks.

dont no if this helps but i moved my shift lever down and havent missed a gear since

Well there's always clutchless shifting........  :icon_twisted:

I've had it happen too, only maybe twice, but for me it's when I shift normal, when i shift hard it always works.

(You know my whole bike is like that.....)

Most likely it's made you actually shift harder, eliliminating the LLT factor. :thumb:

I havnt' had time to move anything or experiment with different things.  That and I have remarkably girlinshly small feet so it could be that I get really light shifts from time to time.  but I'd think it would happen more than JUST 5th to 6th.  Oh, and now and then I hit actual nuetral between 1st and 2nd but nuetral is s'posed to be there so I don't think of it so much.

As others have said, a false neutral is usually do to a lazy left foot.  For me it generally only happens in the higher gears because I'm less energetic in my shifting in 5th and 6th because I'm not winding out like I would be in 1st - 4th. 

I highly recommend adjusting your shifter lever and I think a lot of people don't realize that it's something you should do; think of it as a tilt steering wheel on a car: you can drive without messing with it, but it's a lot safer and more comfortable to get it just right for you.

I ocasionally will get a false neutral but it happens much less often without the clutch, just quickly close the throttle and firmly shift without the clutch and it will probally work better

LLT will occasionally result in an involuntary down shift...  You think you're in gear and you start moving, then >BAM< you're back down a gear.   :o  Helluva surprise.  :o

The solutions have already been covered:
    Move the shift lever down
    Lift your left toe harder
    Shift without the clutch
    Wear KISS boots when you ride
