Restoring black plastic

Don't know if this has ever been posted but I found a couple of good products to restore the plastic on your bike.

Back to Black (not sure who makes)
Restore Black (Bondo)

I came across these when I was restoring my Mustang.  It works really good on the trim pieces around the windows so I thought I'd try it on my bike.  The mirrors and everything was a light gray from all the sun fading.  I stayed up late and put a few coats on.  Looks like a new bike now.  Good stuff.  If I get around to it (and figure out how to post) I'll put some before and after pics.

I think I got the Restore Black at Walmart in the car section.  Can't remeber where I got the Back to Black.  They're both the same thing though.

Oh yeah, it also works on the anodized black aluminum pieces.

Whats the restore black like?  I find the back to black really watery and takes time to work in/dry off, stays a bit streaky I find.

I don't know about restoring (but good to know), but for prevention I use Protectant 2000 (bright green bottle).

I personally use Armor All or whatever has UV protection in it.  Keeps it looking good but when you buy an old beat up bike...  it's hella cheaper than buying new stuff

"bumper black" I prefer using duplicolor. Its spray paint, perfect color/texture... and will outlast the life of the vehicle if applied correctly. I did every black plastic thing on my bike already and have gotten frequent comments on how new my 96 looks.

What about the black engines? You know how they get a bit dull in spots from the heat.

I just scuffed the surface w/ some 3m pads, degreased, and misted with some black high temp. My engine looks like new. You could also use "CD2 engine detailer" its more temporary... spray on, run engine to set and it give the wet look. I could keep my car engine looking wet for 3 or mroe weeks depending on how dusty it was. I dunno how well it would do w/ the gs motor since its out in the open exposed to dust constantly.

Ya, the stuff worked pretty good.  The guys I started riding with thought I bought all new stuff.  Don't get me wrong, my bike is still the source of most jokes but it's still fun and looking better everyday.
