Changing the seat lock?

So I'll be swapping tail plastics as soon as I can get my hands on some. I was wondering if there's any way to change the lock mechanism from my GS to the new tail plastics? I know I can have the lock rekeyed, but I'd like to avoid that if possible, because, quite honestly, I am so broke that it's not even funny. So, any ideas? For the record,  my bike's an '02, and the tail plastics I'm swapping to will be from an '05.

Thanks in advance!

I'm certain you can just swap the lock assembly.  How you do it, I don't know, haven't taken that apart yet

Easy.

When you pull the tail plastics off you have to remove the cable from the frame side first. It's a little ball thing.

Pull the tail plastic off and remove the lock assembly by rotating it and pulling it out the front. Fairly easy when you take a look at it. If you need pictures let me know.

i swapped lock assemblies.  i'm not sure if you want to do that since you will have to use a different key for the seat release.  if you are swapping assemblies basically all you have to do is remove the cable from the seat latch and remove the grab bar.  when you put the new one in, all you have to do is connect the new cable.  i don't know if the lock assemblies are interchangeable if you were looking to reuse the lock.  i think i made a list of all the parts i swapped when i did the tank and plastics.

Very easy, they are right about the lock cable. It's a little ball at the end of the cable that you pull out of the side of the lock mech and it will slide right out. It's easy. The lock has a two pronged peice that pulls out which releases the lock from the plastic. Pull this out and you will see it simply fall out. Use your noggin and it's a breeze. Switching the tank lock is not quite as easy, but can be done as well if you are curious.

Yeah, I know about the ball/cable thingie. I have the plastics off. What I want to do is change the actual lock so that I can use my current key in the new tail plastics. Sorry if I didn't make myself clear at first.

Yeah. I just went and did it. And I'm retarded for not trying it before posting a question. Damn, that was easy. Can't wait to get my new plastics! And forks! And Bars! And get that subframe fixed!
