I like the little tinny windscreen the SV650 has right above the headlight. Is there something similar for the GS500E?

Chilly Willy

I recently saw a cafe style fairing (windscreen) for sale on e-bay that would fit the GS500.  Search under "fairing" and "GS500."

Black frame but they still use a silver cap over the swing arm bolt. Go figure.

Yeah, I noticed that too. The frame is actually a satin black (not matter black, as I thought it was when I did my headlight bucket). Maybe I'll go get a can of satin black spray paint, sand that little cap, and clean up the lines a little bit.

That's why you sand it! :)

Even soft plastic should hold some paint on it if primered correctly. That means sanding it appropriately and using an applicable primer.

I actually need to, I think. They are starting to flake and corrode a bit due to age (they are from a '92 model). My headlight bucket has a few chips on the backside from where it bumped up against the gauge cluster, so maybe a satin clear coat over these parts as well? What do you think?

Dude, get some flat black wheel paint.  I've painted a bunch of stuff for my bike (headlight bucket, headlight ears, rear brake torque rod, etc) with flat black wheel paint.  I forget what brand I have, but it is deffinately a satin paint despite the labeling.  I got it at Auto Zone (shudder).  The wheel paint is hard as shaZam!, you'll dig it.

They make plastic primer if you're so inclined.

Me too!  That looks sweet!  I love that fairing too.  Where did you pick it up?

Got it of Ebay. Found some brackets at the hardware store that i cut back to make it fit,
then had it painted. Thinking about a smoked screen for it now.

There's always the Buell Blast screen like hhgsm31 has.

Is it possible to paint the frame (well) without taking everything off of it though?  I don't want it to look like crap.  I'm in the process of working through all the parts I can take off (did the metal gauge flange or whatever it's called Monday - triple clamp is next).

I got somehting I swiped from werase - thanks werase ...  :icon_mrgreen: ...
It came off his SV he said. Would look good on a GS - I think it was SV aftermarket stuff. I'll see what it is and post. That said ... the SV does need it bad, the lopsided chrome backed guage cluster is as dumb as a boob job on just 1 boob. Like you have a DDD and an A.
Cool.
