What does this Carburetor valve do?

I recently got my hands dirty and took apart (kinda) my bike for the first time, i cleaned the fuel hoses, fuel filter, air filter, and replaced missing hose from gas tank to emissions do-dad (forgot the name).

Although i noticed there was a hose valve without a hose on it coming from the Carburetor, i was hoping someone would be able to identify it for me, and let me know if it's normal to not have a hose hooked to it.

That isn't a valve, it's just where you hook up the fuel line.

The fuel line is connected at the bottom of the carbs, this fitting is at the top of the carbs. the bike get's fuel (just took it on a 65mi. ride today!)  :thumb:

Is the author of this post and myself talkinga bout the same T-Fitting?

ducati_nolan

Yeah, the lower T is where the fuel goes (thats what it looks like your arrow is pointing to) and the upper T is just a vent. You don't need to hook it up to anything.

That hooks up to the airbox.

Actually the hose connected to it goes over the airbox and ends in free air. It's just a vent / reference pressure prickup. Not much damage done when there's no hose connected to it.

On my bike it connects to the airbox. i have a 1990 california model.

Really? Where does it connect?

CirclesCenter

Top of the airbox has a little thingy as I remember,  :dunno_white: but being as it is almost 12:30 at night I'm not going poking around under my tank.

I could be wrong, but there is DEFINITELY a hose that connects to my airbox.

You know being as it's 12:30 I am probably wrong.  :cookoo:  :o

(OMFG!)

But hey whatever. My rule with my GS:

If it runs good, don't worry.
When it starts running bad post and hope Kerry/Alpha/Srinath/oneofthosecoolcats is around to help.

Yep, there is, the crankcase vent, at thick hose that connects to the cylinder head.

But, hey, nobody expects you to know the routing of every hose of the GS at every hour of the day. ;)
