Hi all,

I was hoping to get your advice on handle bars.  The stock ones on my bike are pretty rusty and I would like to replace them.  They're not the most comfortable bars either.  As I am still a beginner (and have spent way too much lately on this bike), I need a set of bars that won't require me to change all of the cables and such.

Can you tell me what my options are?  What styles / brands should I look at?  Any special considerations?  Any personal favorites?  What should I expect to spend?

Thanks! :thumb:

What bars are on there and what makes them uncomfortable?

Do you want high, low, or mid bars?

Chrome?  Black?

Cheap?  Money is no object?

If you want some cheapo chrome bars (that will eventually rust if you don't clear-coat or treat 'em) you can find 'em at nearly any moto shop...  Just pick the raise and pullback you want and there ya' go.

You can also get 'em on line.

Good questions...
Part of the problem with being a newbie at riding is that I don't have much experience to know if high medium or low bars would work best.  I just find my hands cramping a bit on the stock bars.  I wish money were no object, but while teaching is a joy, it doesn't keep me rolling in the dough.  At the same time, I know you get what you pay for.  How do I go about finding out what bars are the best fit for me?

Alpha,

Thank you for the excellent link.  I really like the look of the bars that are on your bike the best, followed by the clubman bars.

Separate question, I'm looking at bar-end mirrors because of the shoulder-width problem (I can't see past my shoulders).  Yet on your bike, you seem to have some aftermarket mirrors that mount in the traditional place, yet stick out further than the handlebars.  Those might work for me!  What type of mirrors are those and where could I get a pair?

Thanks,

You'll note both in my signiture and on the page my bike has SV650 mirrors (2nd generation). :)

Bar end mirrors are at the bottom.
