a benefit for the lack of horsepower

There are those for whom plenty of horsepower is still not enough. And then there are those of us who are not just satisfied with our GS500s, but appreciate its design limits, to wit, its dearth of hp. A quote from the September 18 issue of AUTOWEEK describes the appeal and virtue of not having all the horsepower in the world at your beck and call.

".....(a relatively low horsepower)engine does indeed limit lunge on demand, but it can be argued that having to think about energy management in any vehicle is a plus, because it requires very attentive driving". :thumb:

I couldn't have said it better myself.  BTW, the author was a mc rider himself.
It's not how fast you go, rather "how" you go fast!

I totally agree that the limited HP of the GS is right about where it should be for me...  A few more horse from 7-9k would be nice, but it's totally unneeded and probably a good idea that it isn't there.

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

7k miles in 4 months, I'm still not bored with my GS. I love it. It's plenty quick enough, and I love how small it is. True, I may lane split like someone with a death wish, but the bike handles it very well. It is so very true that the GS can teach you to be a better rider the longer you own it. I have no qualms with riding the snot out of my GS for many more months to come. Though 3 of my neighbors and two guys I work with all want to buy it, so only time will tell...

NGFl, I didn't come up with that originally ("I am entirely of the opinion that if you are in a fair fight you didn't plan very well.") It's just a rephrasing of a Commander's advice (Not sure what branch) but I do wholeheartedly agree.

No I haven't done the fenderectomy so I don't have any stability at those speeds once the front wheel comes up.

I have to admit that I am bored of the lack of power of the GS, but I keep the bike because it's still very capable, extremely reliable, and I'm too poor to buy something faster.  The bike definately has made me a much better rider though.

About a month ago I was riding with a guy on a GSXR and it was SOOOOO satisfying being able to keep up with him, then pass him then put some distance on him in a twisty section of road.  :flipoff: That makes you feel like you're pretty good, when you can pass a bike that outclasses yours in every way. Sure he blew by me at 130 or so once the road straightened out but we both know that proves nothing. He was just running away because he dosen't want anyone knowing he got shown up bu a little 500

So you're saying if you have $$$, the GS isn't very capable, and maybe even not reliable.
