I always laugh at this. The wind pulled her visor open and that caused her to be picked up off the bike... yeah right. Sounds like a job for MythBusters.

And after all this she goes and buys an R6 as her first street bike. And blings herself with pink Icon gear.

She has a MySpace too... let me find it...

EDIT: Here we go.

geez you ARE the biggest @$$hole I've met alpha. Do you EVER smile at ANYTHING?
:icon_mrgreen:

on another note this story is truly touching. It still blows my mind when I see people tearing down the street with no gear on.

After reading this story I took a quick trip in my cage and I saw two bikers blow by my car. One was a a young cute girl much like this article. No helmet, no gear, on a big 750, riding with one hand no less. It got me thinking

What's so cool about one hand? WTF is wrong with people? Then I started thinking crazy, convincing myself that wearing gear on a 2 wheeled vehicle should be Federally mandated. Do you know how many lives it would be saved if wearing a helmet and full gear were required by law? Hunderds, maybe thousands.

Hey I can dream can't I?  :dunno_white:

I guess some people need to learn the hard way? like this girl.

Mandres

Yea, I was very suprised when she got a 600ss to learn to ride on.  Maybe she didn't know any better.  The article is really touching and well-written, I really felt bad for her regardless of her poor judgement.

I agree with Alpha.  How are you going to get picked up off the bike by the head?  Not possile.  She was just being stupid, as usual, and fell off the back of a moving vehicle.  "I could have grabbed his shirt, but I did't want him to go down too."  WTF  Hope she never rolls down the windows of her car on the highway, cause she'll probably get sucked right out the window.  Who does she think she's fooling? Sounds like a wheelie gone bad to me.  She just fell off a wheelie, and I don't feel "touched" by a chic who fell off a wheelie and got burnt up.

You see it's Darwinism... as tussey said, there's something wrong with these people; they don't wear their gear and ride around like jack asses, so natural selection removes them from the gene pool.  Do you really think the government should mess with nature?

"Here's the jist of it: I was a passenger on my friend Shaun's GXSR 750, we were going extremely fast on highway 550, that means about 120mph.  I had my hands resting on the gas tank, like usual, I was NOT holding onto Shaun like I should have been. My helmet visor flipped open, pullling my head up and back instantly, which made me sit straight up and lean back on the passenger seat, as I had no grip on anything tangible.  Sitting up at 120mph hit me so hard and fast that it ripped me off the back of the bike. "

Okay, so 120mph and she was sitting behind this guy. When you're a passenger on a bike there is typically a pocket of still air behind the rider due to the air flowing up, over, and around the rider. She was sitting behind him, so should have been in that still pocket of air.

Having your helmet visor flipped open at speed, well, unless it's open more than 3/4ths of the way, it is not going to open up, and even that last 1/4 isn't enough to cause that drastic of a change. Helmets are aerodynamically designed for a reason. Also, if she was in the still pocket of air there wouldn't be significant air flow to cause the helmet visor to open up.

Helmet visors aren't really all that strong, either, so saying that it pulled her head up and back instantly is a little far fetched I believe. When placed under any serious load (like trying to lift a 110lb girl) the visor would simply snap off. That's assuming of course that there was enough aerodynamic lift from the visor to even pull her head back. I don't believe there is, as I believe the visors are shaped in such a way that at full open they cut through the air for the most part, only catching a little of it to bobble your head around.

Just to play Devil's Advocate ... but anyone have an idea how many this would actually be?  I'm curious.

That being said, I always ride with my gear and only put my hand on the tank when my wrist starts to hurt.

thirdman

Why do y'all think that the R6 was her first bike?  She gives lots of indications that she had ridden before NOT as a passenger... and comments on being "reminded of the basics" when she was prepping to return to riding.

Yeah, ok, she is a bit of a fooffy girl, but that doesn't have anything to do with anything.

guess you missed it she said she was on highway 550 not doing 550 on the highway ... you dont know how fast she was going at no point did she ever say .. but they must have been flying .. it did not say the helment pulled her off it said that the visor had fliped up (the helmet was already to big ) have you ever had your visor up doing 80 ? the wind chaches it right itpulls on it pretty hard .  now take that and do 120+ i bet they where doing over 120 . dont guess get your facts right. dont assume .. all that dose is make a "ass out of me and you"
second ... yea there might have been somethings that might have been done that should not have ....but she was a passenger .. if that guy was smart he would not have done it .. we all know not everyone is smart.... but if your a passenger .. alot of times you dont have a say in what gose on . have you tryed to talk to someone at 120 miles ? or 100 ... not to easy now easy it ?

Those pictures always make me cringe. It doesn't matter how it happened; it happened. She sounds a lot smarter after having suffered that pain, and I wouldn't wish that kind of pain on anyone. Kudos to her for sharing her story and trying to get others to gear up (and it doesn't matter if she's an attention whore, either, because her message is more important than her motives here).

I don't wish that kind of pain on anyone. However, I think she's a fuckin' tard. I'm with Alpha on this one. I gave a friend a ride the other night, cuz she was stranded. I made her wear my helmet/gloves/jacket, and hold on TIGHT, or it wasn't happening. Yes, I know that riding without a helmet is illegal in GA, but I'd rather mess myself up than mess up someone riding on my bike (Especialy a girl).

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

If there isn't gear x 2, then there should be no passenger, IMHO. You could have waited with her until a ride arrived?

Calling someone else a f%$king tard for riding without gear and then riding without gear yourself? I don't see any difference here other than that you were luckier than she.

If we could have waited till there was a ride, I wouldn't have had to give her one. Her ride's car broke down. Her roommate was too drunk to drive. I chose the lesser of two evils. Drunk guy in a car, or sober guy with no gear. Like I said... that's acceptable risk to me, I ride on a daily basis. I'd rather hurt myself, than her. I'm saying her boyfriend/friend/whatever never should have let her on the back of his bike without properly protecting her. I can accept the risk to myself, not to my passenger. My life is my own to risk. Hers is not mine to gamble with. If we went down, and she was in full gear, and didn't get hurt.. I wouldn't mind being hurt. If we went down, and I was in full gear, and she wasn't, and she got hurt... I'd never be able to live with myself. Just my $.02

So...what you're saying here is......that she has only two friends: a drunk and you? ???   ;)

Ok. I understand what you're trying to say here, and I admire your gallantry, but I'd rather not have to come keek your @$$ because you hurt yourself horribly due to not wearing gear. :P  :kiss3:

I wondered that too having seen the vid.
But the girl in in the video looks like she has a helmet with graphics on it  :dunno_white:

If that is her on the video, she's definitely a dumbass  :nono: for riding like that, and a double dumbass  :nono: :nono: for going riding with a guy that wears f--in shorts and a t-shirt.

What i don't understand is how an event like that hasn't sobred her up. If you look at her myspace she seems to use the fact she has all this publicity for wearing gear to fuel her ego. Half of her page is full of advert links to people who have done a story on her - and pictures which make her look like a model - like she is all about me - in love with herself. Then you read down the page and its all about my near death experience! and loads of shaZam! that she seems to do about getting attention - i think she loves the attention and isnt a good role model. Events like that should sober you up - throwing some gear on and saying always wear your gear look at at me is not the right image to be given when half way down the page you say you love going really fast and shaZam! like that.

Shes just an attention seeker.
