police report added from the rear-end hit and run... (update on restitution)

I was exactly ONE F*CKING block away from my house.  I was slowing down for the red light.  When I looked into the rearview mirrors, a car was coming a bit too fast.  I decided to speed up a bit, but I wasn't fast enough.  They hit me dead center of their bumper, so it just felt like a small-sized speedbump.  I stopped in the middle of the road and watched them stop right behind me.  When they stopped completely, I got of my bike and took off my helmet.  I went to the driver's window and he started telling me to move the bike so "we" could both get out of the way of oncoming traffic.  Sounded fishy, but I did...  Not before I went to the back of his car and read his plates.

Sure enough, when I move my bike to the side of the road, he takes off through the red light.   At this point, I have two options:

1.  I have the plate #.  I should go home and call the cops.  After all, I'm only FOUR HOUSES away from home.
2.  Follow the @$$hole.















Guess what...  I followed him.  He had a two block headstart in which he already took one turn, so when I caught up with him, he books it.  Runs another red light and about 5 stop signs.  Keep in mind I had taken off my helmet, so for half the "chase", I didn't have my helmet on.  I also didn't want to push it, because I wasn't sure of the damage to the GS.  So I was following him on 30mph roads at around 50mph.

Everytime he decided to take a turn, He gained a little lead, 'cause I didn't want to risk dumping it.  Whenever he had a 2 block lead and took a turn, I decided to turn ASAP in the same direction and hope that I would encounter them on the next street.  That happened about four times.  So basically, I was "hunting" them, not chasing them.  They didn't see me in the rearview mirror 'cause I wasn't there most of the time.

On the last three turns, I lost sight of them, but I was smelling a burning foul smell, and lots of white smoke, so I decided to follow those signs.  I rode by the two guys walking, and I was pretty sure they were the assholes, but I didn't want to start anything.

1.  I wasn't 100% sure they were them
2.  I was alone.  They were 2.  Odds were against me if they fought.

I pulled up to the car (which still had the keys inside.  They had hit a curb and busted their fog light (driver side) and driver side front tire busted too.  The tire was rubbing against the wheel well, so that created the "bread-crumbs" for me to follow.

I called the cops...  They took a report...  They searched the car...  They had sad car towed.  But they couldn't find the assholes.

That's ok though...  The cops found their registration along with the guy's work schedule.  They also found a bank envelope with some $$$.  I asked if I could keep the $$$ for repairs, but I knew they couldn't do that.  I should have searched the car before the cops got there.




I went back home, and decided to walk out to the intersection where the HIT & RUN happened.  I wanted to see if I could find any of the bolts that fell from my rear fender.  Instead, I found the front license plate from the car.  WOOT!

I took pictures of the damage and the plate.  The damage was contained mainly to the rear fender.  I think I can attribute that to Ken selling me his Kat shock.

The cops have their car now so hopefully they'll catch up with the a$$holes  & justice will be served.

I have to call the police station and find out tomorrow if they caught the assholes.  I also wanna go get a copy of the police report on Tuesday

This shot is of the plate being pushed upwards.  Right under the taillight is the KNIGHTRIDER lights.  Those are supposed to be showing fully.  Also the rear reflector is broken too.





Here's the right-sde rear shot.  You can see the severed plate-bolt wire.  Also, notice the angle of the rear reflector under the plate.





Here's a pic of the left-rear side.  BOTH plate bolt wires were severed when the fender was pushed upward.

This one's a closeup of the tire.  Same side.  I just wanted to get a closer shot of the paint chip on the rim.  This means more $$$ from his insurance company.   A brand new rim from the dealer is gonna cost $450.

If the car wasn't originally stolen the idiots driving will probably call it in as stolen. You actually witnessed who was driving so they'd have a hard time getting out of that.

I had the same deal in my cage before..He hit me, we talked for a min... he took off.. I  followed him... cought him.. called the police and the cops did nothing to him 

Atleast they let me slide for busting out his drivers side window and snatching his keys so he couldnt run again

I'm a magnet for shitheads like this.  two years ago, when I got my current cage, I had the car for only a couple days.  I was going through an intersection, when the other kid ran the red light and hit my car in the left rear tire.  I spun around 180 degrees.  When I came to a stop, I was facing him directly.  He was stopped too, but the fucker decided to drive off.

I was so pissed about him running off, I decided to drive after them long enough to get the plate.  The bad part was that I couldn't get the stupid phone to co-operate because my hands were shaking so bad.  About two blocks away, the girl in the passenger seat convinced him to pull over (I found this info out afterwards).  He pulled into a parking garage entrance, and stopped in front of the lowered gate.  I pulled up right behind him, close enough where he couldn't back up.

Cop didn't do anything except write the report and give him a ticket.




Regarding the GS, I'm going to my insurance company on Tuesday and reporting it to them.  I'm gonna squeeze this situation for as much $$$ as I can.  I'll show them where the rim has a tiny chip, the fender, the tire has all that crap, LED license plate bolts, reflectors, and anything else I can find.  The muffler has a small scuff, but that one's BARELY visible.  I don't wanna show them TOO MUCH.  Otherwise, the insurance companies will declare it totaled and take it away and pay me for it.  I wouldn't mind the $$$, but it's not enough to get a new bike.

see now, thats TX for you. In CA that would be hit and run, and not just a ticket. I think leaving the scene of an accident is a felony.

I'm not sure where you got TX from...  I can understand that the abbriviations both only have TWO letter, so that's a bit confusing for some...  But they're not even close...
