My bike either has:

a) So much respect that people don't feel worthy to have its parts
b) A dang voodoo curse that causes things to run into it, people to walk in front of it, and the ground to lovingly caress it
c) No respect and people think the stuff I have is worthless

So basically what you're telling us is that they'll cut you a check for $2500 for a busted bike, right?  I mean yeah, it'd be a total shaZam! loss to buy the bike for that much but screw them...buy another one and spent the $1500 you have left over on your new, perty Z.

No, that's how much they were telling me my NON busted bike was worth. I told them, in not so many words, that that was f%$king bullsh*t. So they were trying to cut me a $2500 check BEFORE buy back.

f%$king insurance company.

no that's what I'm saying.  They want to give you $2500.

I'd say screw it, go buy another GS if you want, and spend the rest on your Z.

Get my point?

I can't just "spend the rest". I don't have any extra money to spend outside of what I'm getting from the insurance company. What I plan on doing is using the majority of that insurance check towards a DRZ, and selling off parts (there's a thread in the For Sale section) to raise the rest of the money.

Alpha, If it helps you gauge, I got 2700 for my '01 with 5500 miles back in April of '05 when I got ran over.  Which was right at the high kbb value (at the time).  I also got 1000 for all my gear and well... I'll just say I came out to the good because of an ER visit, some pretty rash, and a week off work... pain and suffering.  Of course, they dragged out my settlement to over 6 months, and I had to get my lawyer to make a few calls to get them moving.

I got a call back from the insurance company on Friday. Apparently they didn't get all the sheets I faxed over, so they only had information on the suspension work I did. Also, according to them the RaceTech springs I put in don't add value to the bike because the OEM units are more expensive. I did a little research and found that OEM springs are roughly $28, whereas the RaceTechs are $110. If the OEM units were so great, why does everyone complain about how crappy the suspension is on the GS? My adjuster's little pricing error worries me.

Also, they readjusted the "excessive mileage" deduction from nearly $1000 to "only" $550. After all was said and done, they said my bike's value was just a touch over $3000. Load. Of. Crap.

I faxed the two pages that they didn't get to their office AGAIN on Friday evening, so they should hopefully call me back on Monday so we can sort this stuff out. I am going to contest not only the value of the springs and my adjuster's egregious pricing error, but also the "excessive mileage" bullsh*t they are trying to pull on me. It's a 2004 model with 16k miles, which averages out to roughly 8k miles a year. Hardly excessive, I feel, especially considering that Texas has a 10+ month riding season. Hell, in a lot of circles I'd be made fun of for not riding the poor thing enough.

We'll see how everything goes this week.

Keep in mind, though, that modifications do not actually add value to a bike in the eyes of an insurance company.  You can point it out, but I doubt they'll do much to waver unless they're just feeling genorous.  I would point out, though, that the GS's popular market value is between $3450 and $3525.  This can be seen on almost any online appraisal site or inside their KBB or NADA booklets.

Because my insurance company is slower than me, and they probably would have settled for the $3000.
