50cc and under, in most states, is completely unrestricted...no license, insurance, safety, or gear requirements.

I've seen a few and I want to build one.  I REALLY want to get one of these:

Then turbo it...or cram an RM250 setup in her.  Oh that's sexy...

I know Honda now makes some naked scooters. The Ruckus and the Big Ruckus. I've seen a bunch of them here in LA. One of my neighbors even has the Big Ruckus with the industrial yellow/orange paint. As far as I've heard, it started as a trend in Japan of poor students buying cheap totaled out scooters and fixing them up. I guess Honda figured they could make money off of that and started making pre-shredded versions. That story could be nothing more than marketing hype though.

heres the Ruckus.

Heres the Big Ruckus.

None of the scooter riders around here wave either. And none of them have any more gear than a half helmet. I think the fact that it's made "street fightered" makes it less cool than if you did it yourself

It kinda pisses me off that we don't get the REALLY cool scooters here.  I think it's Puegot that makes a supercharged 125 that hands with 400cc sportbikes.  Italjet makes some really badass scooters.  Aprilia, too.

Scooter racing is straight pimp, too.  You can assemble a pro-level technical track on one acre and it's something that everyone can afford to race.  I wish they'd catch on more here...

LOL!  That's the exact same scooter I owned prior to buying the GS500 (same color and everything).  And yes, people mod the heck out of them--it gets pretty pathetic, actually.  Checkout www.provoscooter.com for an entire board dedicated to modding the Yamaha Zuma.

Sad?  Those things are a hoot!

Chilly Willy

What's sad is that people remove the fender, shave the seat down, and carve up the plastic--all to get their scooters to look like a sports bike.  They are a lot of fun to ride, just not a whole lot of power.

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

blue05twin

Sure np.  Who else is going?  Hey if you want I have another GS500F sitting in the garage black / silver you can always ride that  :icon_mrgreen:

Will the tire hold air at all?  If it will you can aways fill it up with air ride it over use the tools in my garage ( I have another front rim with tire on it ) and swap it out at my place.  No sense in doing the work twice, from your bike to mine t hen mine back to yours.

Let me know you got my cell phone number but I forgot my cell at home today give me a call later tonight after 8pm and let me know.

Dave

You want me to ask if anyone else I know wants to go?

Scooters are hooligan machine... one time I was a a conference, and I decided to rent a Honda Jazz to tour downtown and fetch some groceries - in no time I was hopping curbs, and backing it in   The next day I got a BWizz instead (Zuma, same thing) and was just terrorizing the town, cutting through parks, down to the habour (accessibily is a good thing) skidding across lawns  :icon_twisted:  Unfortunately at full tuck it'll only do 75km/h on a long long straight.

Hooligan machine I say. Urban weapon.  And don't let it trick you, the throttle only has 2 positions - closed and WOT...

Chilly Willy

Scooters are definitely fun.  What I miss is having all of that under-seat storage!  I could fit all of my camera gear under the seat and would then strap the tripod to the luggage rack on the back.

To make you really mad, I have both the GS and a Zuma.  Take the Zuma on camping trips to ride around on, nice and light.  Oh in the state of TN helmets are required for scooters along with tags if you want to ride them on the street.

Hi Everyone!

I have a Suzuki Burgman 650 "scooter" as well as my beloved GS500F (and a Kawasaki 650R).  I can't tell you how many times my "scooter" left motorcycles behind from a dead stop.  Many Harley type bikes try to outrun me... many have failed... LOL.  There is nothing more precious than to see the expression on the face of a biker that pulls up to me at the next intersection and they realize that they got beat by a "scooter."  When I first got the Burgman 650, many motorcyclist came up to me and asked "what the hell is that?"  I tell them it's a scooter... then when the opportunity arises, I go WOT.  As a riding buddy on a R1 once said, "Damn!..." after we went for a short ride at lunchtime.  For the most part, my scooter kept right up with him on city streets... until we hit the freeways.... LOL... then I think he was pissed off... he left me at (from what he told me later) at about 150 MPH...   :icon_twisted:

They are fun to ride... I'm now saving up for a Honda Ruckus for mini-runs around town!

i was reading a article in "BIKE" a while ago about scooter racing, they had italjet dragsters/ gilera runner 180's
180 cc two stroke scooters!
they said in race trim they would top 100mph and pull 13's in the quarter mile,
sadly they are not street legal in the U.S.
if they were, i'd ride one.

some (spanish?) guys stunt them, Gronx biker team i believe, completely nuts.
The final measure of any rider's skill is the inverse ratio of his preferred Traveling Speed to the number of bad scars on his body. It is that simple: If you ride fast and crash, you are a bad rider. And if you are a bad rider, you should not ride motorcycles.
