There's a re-election commercial floating around television for Texas Lt Gov David Drew Hurst supporting a rather interesting bill:

First time child molestation offenders recieve an automatic 25 year jail sentence.

Sounds ok to me.

Second time offenders face the death penalty.

Now, call me old fashioned, but I just can't see adding this to the list of things the "people" will kill a human being for...murder and treason?  Sure.  But this?  Nah I don't really get it.  Maybe it's because I don't have children...

That is harsh.  I haven't seen the commercial yet, but I'll keep an eye out for it.  Child molestation and similar crimes are commited by people who are mentally ill.  I don't think killing the metally ill is going to fly.  If they do it once, then need to be locked up for a long time, but killing them is not the way to go.  Dude sounds alittle off to me.  Maybe he got molested as a child and wants revenge.

I absolutely agree. I watched my son like a hawk, and I would have killed anyone who tried to harm him.

The public isn't supposed to just add random crap to the capitol offense list.  It's being considered because a noisy, but small, portion of the population thinks it's a good idea.  Imagine what noisy people will be able to add to the list next...

Sorry, but if someone were to harm my child, then I would likely lose my mind at that moment and commit hare kari, at which point I would become mentally ill and plead not guilty due to mental deficiency!

No I wasn't molested.  I feel very bad for anyone that was.  A couple of my close friend were and I can tell that it's adversly affected thier lives as they grew older.  With that being said, it's not right to kill people for that crime.  There are only a few crimes that warrant the death penalty, and child molestation is not one of them.  I didn't get molested because I was fortunate enough to have parents that took good care of me and knew where I was at all times.  My friends that were molested weren't that fortunate.  In and out of foster care and what not.  People just have to take care of thier kids and know where they are at all times.  Lock the molestors up for life, but it's inhumane to kill them.  They are sick people who need help in jail.  We, as a country, can not jump on the killem all bandwagon.  It will lead us down a path that we need not be on.  Next, there will be proposed legislation to send small time offenders to jail for 25yrs for drug related crimes.  Ohh yeah, they already have that.

heh theres a double standard with molesters. men = 99% of the time, goin to the pen women having sex with children although rarer, sometimes they get probation, some say its because "they can be cured" ehhh, i just hope i never have to deal with any of these people. ive not been molested myself, but have seen what happens to those who have. and had known several people who were convicted of that ive cut all contact with them.

The death penalty is a little too overboard for first offenders when it comes to child molestation. Twenty years at hard labor and being Bubba's Buddha Loves You should suffice for first offenders. I would also recommend mandatory castration for the offender.

Second offenders should just be locked in a 20' X 20' room, built from solid concrete, for an hour with a dozen really pissed off women. There would be no need to waste tax payers' money on a prison sentence then. The cost of cremating what little is left of the offender wouldn't be all that much.
