Since i put the new handlebars I cant seem to get the throttle thing right.

First there was a bit of play in the beginning but it wasnt too bad but it felt funny in the new position my handlebar is in.

So i had my friend tighten it and now the play is perfect but i cant get it to return.. the throttle sticks.. I have to push it back to have it return. Any idea what's up? or how i can fix this..

Thanks

Did your friend adjust the free play using the lock nut and adjuster below the throttle grip, or at the carburetor end of the cable?  I'm trying to eliminate the possibility that the return spring at the carb end was tampered with.

The only other thing I can think of is that the cable housing is exerting too much friction on the cable.  Did you have to reroute the cable to get it to work with the new bars?  The return spring may be working properly, but may not be strong enough to overcome any excess friction caused by rerouting.

Lubing the cable might help, but either lubing or rerouting will put you back where you started - in need of free play adjustment!

Look for any part of the handgrip rubbing against the switchbox or the bar end. Loosen the play back up to see if that was the culpret. Also is the routing of the cable pinched between anything? Or just firmly pushed up against something.

MIne stuck when I changed my bars too.  I didn't get teh throttle casing in far enough on the handlebar itself.  When I added my barend mirrors I hade teh screw assembly actually locking the throttle in place.   Just like Scratch is saying.  It seems as though I had cruise control.     So I lossened it and gave it a good shove.  That seemed to work.  Look there 1st.

the guy adjusted on the throttle end..

I checked teh clearances its fine.. but i will double check. It was working fine as a return before he adjusted it..

I will try lubing the cable and see what happens. I hope its an easy fix. Without this i cant fully test out the new handlebars for comfort. Its fine of the freeway but on the streets the throttle is too stifff.
