yep, thats all campy record from 1985 on there. the cranks are campy for track, added later. bike is road bike (SLX frame) from 1985 and I had Brian Bayliss weld the track dropouts on it a few years back. I love his work...

Encino isnt next door but its 35-40 minutes over the hill without traffic. Same distance to Dominguez hills (ADT) track. about 75 minutes in traffic.

I've since removed the rear brake and done the front bars as bullhorns with a mtn bike brake lever...

The strange part is that I WAS a very personable.  I got along with just about EVERYONE.  But after working in retail for SOOOO long, it has "soured" me against people.  After work, I would just wanna be alone and go home.  I didn't really wanna converse with anyone.

You're still personable. It sounds as though you're more burned out than anything else, and that's pretty darned normal with your schedule. I talk on the phone so much for work that I'd rather have my fingernails pulled out and my arms lit on fire than talk on the phone when I'm not at work. That doesn't mean I have a social anxiety toward phones. It just means I'm sick to f'g DEATH of them!

The internet offers sort of a compromise social life. You can still have the social life, but you don't have to "put out" as much, if you'll pardon the expression. We all need contact, but sometimes getting together with people takes too much energy. By getting together on the internet, we have social contact without having to work so hard.

I will, however, go with the +1 on keeping contact with friends, though. The internet can't make up for in-person human interactions.  Is there ANY chance at all of changing jobs, cuz it really sounds as though that one is sucking the life out of you, An.... :(

You could learn how to dance, for example.

I am considering changing careers.  I have wanted to become a firefighter for the last four years, but three years I missed the civil service exam by a month, and this year I was busy on the exam date.  Maybe next year.

I have learned that I really DO like to help people.  Being a FF might be the move I should make.  Although being an ERT might be the way to go, but I don't think my stomach can handle the sight of blood or similar fliuds.

Actually I've found that when people have a hard time with the sight of blood/fluids/inards, they desensitize themselves to it after a short while of exposure.  Visit a beef backing plant for good desensitizing material.

I'd much rather be in an ambulance running to a car wreck and back to the emergency room rather than spending hours inside a burning, multi-story building.

I've thought about that, but I personally would like to see my efforts at work.  I imagine that the ERT's only transport, and when they get to the ER, they don't know what happens to the person.

At least with a FF, you'll know what happened in the end. (which may be a good OR bad thing)

If you think paramedics are only the middle man you might want to go for a ride-along (a lot of hospitols will offer this as demand for paramedics is quite high...they encourage most interest)

My sister worked as an ER nurse for ~6 months before going elsewhere in the hospital.  My mom worked as an ER room rad tech for ~3 years before moving on.  I have an uncle that has been an EMT for about 10 years now.  They all have talked about how the EMTs do have the chance to talk with the same reception staff and learn what is going on with the cases if they'd like to know.
