My brother and I flew down to my dad's in Birmingham, Alabama and spent the last five days there.  He's got two bikes, a 2005 GS500F and a 2005 SV650.  I spent most of the week on the GS because it wouldnt seem very nice to hog the SV650 if I have an SV1000S at home.  So my brother rode the SV650 (he's an MSF grad btw, he just doesn't own a bike).

I'll start by saying I LOVE THE TWISTY ROADS!!!  Those don't exist in Kansas!  It was quite an eye opener to get back on a GS.  It's crazy to think that I used to think that bike was really fast.   But I am definitely glad to have started on a GS, I would have definitely hurt myself starting on a bike as fast as the SV1000S.

It get's better.  There's a dealership near my dads' with BMW, Ducati, and Triumph.. I think its called Hogart's Cycles.  And by the grace of god, a daytona 675 happened to be one of their demo bikes.  So I filled out the paperwork, and took the bike for a test ride.

here's me coming back to the dealer..

The power delivery feels very similar to my SV.  Except the bike weighs about 50 lbs less.  That bike has some guts down low, way better than my roommates '06 R6.  It feels very light and flickable in the corners, and I looovvvee the sound of that triple!  I only got about 15 miles to ride the bike, in a posted 40mph zone around the dealer.

When I got back to the dealer, they looked over the bike, and came back to me and said "You went 92 mph."  I was like whaaa???
Aparently the daytona has a resettable topspeed recorder in the gauges.  :o I wish I knew that before.  The asked me to not do it again, otherwise I would be banned from future test rides.  I really enjoyed that bike.

Somebody go buy a Daytona 675!

I've had the Daytona since April.  Beyond some weird warranty-covered issues, it has been an absolute dream.  I use it every day for commuting as well as weekend trips and long rides.  Not the best for long rides, but it is the best for everything else.  I highly recommend grabbing one at your earliest convenience.  It flies.  and, yeah, really easy to go really fast and not notice it. "But officer, I was only in third gear!"  Yeah, third gear going over 80 mph....  Fun toys!!!!

It may sound a bit weird, but that Triumph speaks to something deep and primal within me... I look at it and... oh... I hear it... and... mmmm!!  I'm sorry, what were we talking about?
