This isn't totally a re-post.

I just watched all 7 episodes of Long Way Around.  This is the documentry filed my Ewan McGregor and his friend Charlie.  They traveled around the world, literally, on BMW motorcycles.

It was just amazing.  Has anyone else watched this?  I know a couple of you have.  I highly recommend it to everyone on this website.

Yeah picked it up a few months back and must say it's brilliant and inspiring... I found it funny that the whole trip they went without any collisions, then they arrive to Canada and both Ewan and Charlie get run into.

Yeah, in Calgary.  I just loved the footage from Mongolia and the Road of Bones.  Only 80 miles of paved roads in all of Mongolia.  That was truely amazing.  Everyone they met was so amazing.  I've got tons of respect for those guys.  I know that if I were Scottish and an actor, I would enjoy hanging out with them.  I was just so jeolous.
I am going to plan an epic trip for next summer.  Nowhere too crazy.  Just places the Super Hawk can go.  See if Destro can take some time off.  Maybe go north, Minnesota, Wiconson, etc., Canada.   Still, it wouldn't compare.

Definitely would be fun.  Should be interesting to plan, considering the Super Hawk's exuberant fuel consumption.  Not very R1150 like at all.   I guess our support vehicle could be a fuel tanker!

Well, I bet we could make it to Deal's Gap and back in a week.   Even with my frequent pit stops.  :flipoff:

Sounds like a decent trip, leave Saturday, be there by Monday when the traffic would be a less, spend a few days riding the dragon and see the local spots and be back on Friday.  Trip planned.

Turds comin' too.  Would your wife be wiling to take care of your babies by herself for a week?

I am seriously going to do this.

I think so, if we plan it right, I could send her to her folks for the week that way she is not by herself.  I have been wanting to go to the Gap for a while now and a good long trip would be awesome.

When, this coming summer?  I will have just started a job (who knows where I'll even be living...) so no promises from me...  But JEEZ I would love to do a long tour.  I did a 300 mile round trip a few weekends ago and I thought that was BIG shaZam!.

Just bought the DVD and its on its way.  AWESOME!

You're luck Turd.  I wish I owened that DVD.  I actually asked for it for Christmas.

Yeah, we're talking about Summer '07 to do the trip. The trip down there whould be pretty kick ass.

We can take highway 63 from Jefferson City all the way to Memphis and that will take us on some AMAZING roads in Arkansas.  Then the trip from there should be pretty good if we stick to Tennesee.  Then we'll be in the moutains for the rest of the way.  Awsome.

This picture cracked me up in the "Photo Gallery" page of the "Long Way Round" website.  They went around the entire world, only chose about 30 pictures to post on the site and they choose to mock my Hometown and the place I spend basically every Holiday...Naperville, IL.

Once you watch the movie, you'll be so proud that they passed though your town.  One of the cameramen was from there, I believe, and they stop and get dinner with his parents.  They actually loved that town.

Its been rated as the 2nd best town in America (who the f%$k decided to rate towns in America?) for the last 5 or 6 years behind Ft. Collins, CO.

Naperville, WHAT!

OK, we should go after Turd graduates, he can delay the start of his new job until after the trip.  If he is moving, the wife can take care of all the packing!  I know the YZF guys stay here for their annual meet:

Okay, so we find out when Turd graduates, then book rooms and block off our work schedules.  What more needs to be done?

We're just going to assume my bike didn't get ruined by the winter storm.

Figure out a way to get our gear down there, I have saddle bags and a tank bag, but that will probably hold my stuff.  Get some gear for all possible weather conditions. Tune up bikes, etc.

I say split the trip down into 2 days, less wear and take the scenic route.  Schedule a day off before return trip and superslab it home.  It looks to be about 750 miles to Deal's Gap from here. Not bad 2,000+ miles in a week. Also need to get walkie talkies to communicate.  I say we schedule a spring day trip to test out equipment and logisitics, etc.

I'm just bringing a two piece leather suit and my riding boots.  I'll go comando and keep a spare t-shirt under my seat.   You can bring what you like.  I travel light.

I'm with you on the two days down, super slab back.  750 miles would be doable in two days.  That is only. . . 7 gas stops for the Shawk.
