bike won't turn over...

I have an '04 gs500f with 2700 miles on it.  It's been sitting in my cold garage for a week and it wouldn't turn over tonight.  I tried turning it over about 20 times and nothing is happening.  At first I heard the click and normal starting sounds with a loud clunk at the end.  Now I just hear a series of rapid clicks.  What could the problem be?

Thanks,

Mike

Your battery is low on charge. Check to make sure the fluids are at the proper level.

Do you own a battery tender type charger?

You can jump-start the bike from an auto battery, but try not to have an auto running when you do this.

Also, make sure that when you shut the bike down and remove the key, put the switch in the OFF position and not P. P will leave the park light and the tail light on. This is a certain way to run the battery down.

Just a dead battery, no biggie. Probably low on water and just need a long trickle charge on it. Also, just jump start the bike if you want. Doesn't matter how you do it. Just be careful not to short anything out.

Your carbs are probably dry too.  Set the petcock on prime to get some gas in there.

Thanks guys... it was warmer this morning and started right up.  I just went out for a nice 100 mile ride.  It's going to get cold again next week so I'm going to drain the carbs and put it under a cover in my garage for a few weeks.

Just started right up with no interaction at all?

I'd wonder about the main earth/ground connection from the battery negative to the bottom of the engine.

Please tell us you fiddled with the GS, or jump started it, or something.

Glad you got to ride though.  :thumb:
