Jardine Rear Brake Clearance Issue

I purchase a nice brand new jardine exhaust system for my 2005 GS500F and have been totally happy with it apart from one thing I noticed today.

When the rear wheel hits a bump, the suspension travel caused a bolt head on the rear brake calliper to rub into the muffler body of the exhaust putting a decent gouge in the polished aluminium of the muffler (good to know the muffler body is made of thick aluminium).

After a bit of fiddling I bent the exhaust hanger bracket to give the muffler a little more clearance but still not as much as I would have liked.

Now I'm concerned that certain bump combinations might cause the two to make contact again.

I am contemplating putting some gaf tape over the wear mark to prevent more damaging to the body if contact is made again. (and replacing it often  :dunno_white:)

Ideally I'd like to put something more substantial there to prevent the strike damage but I don't want to reduce the minimal clearance I now have any more. Would a layer of exhaust cement or epoxy on the strike zone be usefull?

So a quick word of advice for those with after market exhausts. Check to ensure you have good clearance between the exhaust and parts mounted on the suspension through its full range of travel.

Make a new exhaust hanger bracket - use the original design but make it so it hands the exhaust further away from the rear brake bolts, then paint it up and put it on.

is the exhaust bracket mounted to the inside or outside of the rear peg bracket....if on the inside..move to the outside
if on the outside....add a few washers to space it out....you might need a longer bolt.

filling in a scratch on the back side of a can at a wear point...will just piss you off if/when the patch falls out

join both parts of the hanger clamp together then mount on the outside of the mount bracket that should do it.
You have way to much space at the top of the muffler and the clamp and with the spring mounts it will move inside the clamp the clamp must grip the muffler all the way around. I have my jardine fitted the way I have mentioned and its rock solid with enough clearence :thumb:

Well now I have about 4mm more clearance  :thumb: after moving the clamp to the outside of the bike mounting bracket + adding 1 additional spacer washer.

A side benefit is the clamp now actually fits surprise surprise
