My 2004 GS500F Scooter

Maybe it's a conspiracy, I don't know.

Last week on my way to the gym, a van full of kids is next to me at a stop light and they start asking "hey, what kind of scooter is that?". I give them a dirty look and ride off into the sunset.

Just a few minutes ago, again I'm at a stop light and notice a couple of guys looking at the bike and nodding approvingly. The driver rolls down the window and says "That's a nice looking scooter". I ask him, "does it really look like a scooter?" and he's like yeah, it's not a scooter? I smile, light turns green and off I go.

So, maybe it's the Miami ignorance since there's trillions of scooters on the road, or maybe it's just my dorky appearance. Anyone else have this experience?

I call my GS "The Scoot."   :dunno_white:

I defence of the retarded people that don't know a scooter from a cooter...  The lack of a fairing might be what's throwing them off...  It's not an "American Chopper" and it's not a "Crotch Rocket" so they think it's a scooter.

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

Last time I got pulled over for speeding/multi lane changing (by a cop on a Kawasaki), he was like, where you going. I was like, work. He's like, how long have you had the scooter? I'm like um... a year. Later I was like... he should know enough about bikes to know this isn't a scooter.

In his defense he pretty much only saw it from behind, they say our back wheels are relatively narrow, and the fairing on the F model is fairly wide and also vertical, which could make it resembles a scooter. Either he wasnt paying attention or he was making fun of me.

Cops... jumping to conclusions? What next, pigs fly?

i dont hate cops... he was pretty cool about it...

It's the pseudo-futuristic fairing on a relatively small bike.

I know why I prefer naked.

Bulwark

No GS looks like a scooter.  I imagine the cop was just trying to annoy you with the word "scooter".

You should have called his police car a "nice Hyundai."

I know Harley guys around here call some bikes "Scooters", even their own. Just like hey... nice: bike, chopper, scooter, sled etc....

:thumb:

Its not meant to be condescending.

That's common around here too, mostly by Harley guys that have been around awhile.  It's not a put down, scooter means bike.

Ya its one of those weird things people say that means motorcycle, or maybe the cop was an idiot.  I got pulled over on my zx6r and a cop told me that I race the bike because I didnt have any ram air tubes, and he also told me I dont know how to take care of my bike because the chain and sprocket were worn out ( I put them on 3 days before)  and he asked where my turn signals were, I told him I thought I didnt need them because I passed inspection, then he got all red faced and started throwing a tantrum...seriously he did though, it was pretty comical.  I usually dont bash cops but this one seriously did this,  , when I said the turn signal thing, and then he calmed down and talked in a quiet smooth voice and asked if I was really telling the truth about forgetting my insurance, I told him yes and he gave me a warning....crazy cop, he called for back up too, oh well. I was told my gs looked like a dirt bike made for the street...and the guy was serious...

Things like this happen...  I noticed that when I got my R6, most of my friends couldn't tell the difference between my GS and the R6...  Everyone's like, "That's your new one???  I thought that's your old one..."

HAHA EXACTLY!! if they dont know alot about bikes, they cant tell the difference.

I've waved at a few scooters that I thought were motorcycles at first. Generally the scooter riders (scooterists?) seemed very confused as to why a man in full leathers was waving at them.

Bulwark

When I rode my scooter I got waves from bikers all the time.  I also waved to them.  I figure if you are not driving in an enclosed protective cage then they get the wave. :thumb:

You said it right, ignorant. They rent a lot of those Aprilia RS50's here in Panama City Bch. and technically it is a motorcycle, and someone once confused my GS for one of those, so I showed him really quick like that I had way more performance than any 50cc scooter/motorcycle.

With a few simple mods you can get your GS to do 0-60's in under 6 seconds, and your 1/4 mile in under 14 seconds at over 90mph, I like to see a street legal scooter that could even come close to that.

No one should be ashamed to have a small bike, its better than no bike, and I would of actually got a smaller bike if I could.  I'd trade my GS and my left nut for a Aprilia RS125, but there not street legal here in the USA

Being naked was great, but now that I'm older I thought I should cover up!!!!

Mods?  What mods, no really its stock!!
