Do you think a 16 year old has enough money to pay for all that?

You just never know.  Maybe he has been cutting lawns since he was a infant.   Maybe he has been racing motorcross or shifter carts since he was  a wee lad.  To bash him for merely having a R6 is a bit knee jerk.

For example: one of my best friends had a 5.0 liter Mustang for his first car.  He had worked and saved money to buy it and babied it and modded the piss out of it and never got in a lick of trouble.  It was fast as hell.  This kid could be like him.  Just likes nice stuff.

I started babysitting when I was 10, and I worked in a flower shop starting at 14. I had more than enough money to buy my first convertible (and pay for all of my insurance, gas, clothes, eating out, recreation, etc) when I was 16.

I was helping a family friend at 15-17 building houses, made 350-500 cash under the table weekends, after school and summers. I had two cars and a cr250 when I was 17, no help from anyone.  So an, stfu!!

When I was 12 I was a maintenance man at a local university.  The professor in a math class left an equation up on the chalk board one night.  I guess it was supposed to be hard.  Anyway, I figured it out pretty easy because when it comes to that stuff, I can just play.  Once the found out I was good at math, they got me a job working at a government think tank in D.C.  As soon as I turned 16, I bought a 65 Mustang and drove across the country to see my girl.  So yeah, An, it just goes to show you, your life has been nothing but a long series of baby steps.

Yea ... back in the day, when I was your age ... when we found a penny on the road, we opened a savings account. Then 14 days leter I bought a new convertible. It was 14 cents. Easy ... when we find penny on the ground everyday ... yea ... Kids these days have no sense of responsibility ...

Probably thinks that financial responsibility is subject to daily acts of God, too.
Every zero you add to the tolerance adds a zero to the price.

If the product "fails" will the product liability insurance pay for the "failure" until it turns 18?

Yeah, well, back in my day, we had to walk 27 miles one way in the snow with no shoes or clothes to get to the bus stop to go to school!  :flipoff:

so what do you know about this kid An... probably nothing. Dont judge people just because you're jealous.

for the record, I'm not jealous.  Don't forget... I've GOT an R6.  No need for jealousy. :dunno_white:

Pandy - I don't doubt that you had enough money for all that.  But, was it a BRAND NEW convertible?

I'm not bitching about this kid getting an R6.  I love the bike.  Some do, some don't.  I don't care about that at all...  I'm looking at the BIGGER picture.

Responsibility
Priorities

IF the parents helped finance the toy, that says a lot about them.  That is not teaching their children responsibility.  My parents told me that if I wanted a car, I would have to pay for it with NO help from them.  I was 100% fine with that.  I took PRIDE in the fact that I was able to buy my cars without relying on them.

Many kids do, and to them, I bow down to them.

But when parents help with this "destructive" behaviour, I cannot help think that it is the PARENTS faulty parenting that has this kid saying things like, "If you can run from the police, you should"...  or "Since I've got a supersport, I'm gonna ride like I stole it".

And yes...  I *DID* post a thread about getting angel eyes as a first thread.  The MAIN reason was to get opinions as to which people liked more...  AngelEyez or DemonEyez...  FYI, I have YET to purchase either...  and it will be a WHILE before I do.  It's an impractical mod...  for me anyway.  I don't bring my bike to shows, and I don't show off my bike to my friends.  Hence, they are NOT NEEDED.

I do however want to get reflective rimtape, maybe some reflective decals that look stock during the day, headlight modulator, brakelight LED module (the same on I have on the GS), frame sliders, etc...   I'm concentrating on SAFETY mods.

Wow, a statistically abnormal number of child prodigies/illegal child labor and contracts with minors observed here.

That's a mathematical way for saying, get the f%$k off the cross, Jesus did it, and that's it. No one here is suffering for humanities sins.

(BTW I'm atheist, it's just the sheer amount of Martyrdom is making me want to puke.)

(Also if I tard farm this just know it was happening one way or another.)

you are kinda speculating on the kid, but i agree, if he has a $10K r6 at 16, its 99% mommys money.

i remember my first car. my dad had an 89 coupe deville. he had it since it was brand new, but by the time i was old enough to drive the paint was falling off of it and it had a blown headgasket.
these days i could have probably fixed it myself, but back then i certainly didnt know jack about mechanics, nor did i know anybody who did.

i edited wedding videos for cash until i could drop $1500 to get er fixed. god i loved that car, even with the paint falling apart and the insides having seen better days, it still rode like a cadillac. and it still managed to get me a $500 ticket for going 120 in a 55. god i miss having a 'lac, i had a 92 eldorado that was the best car ive ever had, but some geezer smashed it by running a red light.

went a bit off topic there.

Hell no. I wanted to have enough money to enjoy other things (and start paying for my ejimication). However, what I paid for my convertible back in the stone ages is more than what that kid paid for his R6 today. ;)

I agree with you that parents should absolutely teach responsibility to their children, but I also wouldn't turn down help from my parents if it were offered (and if they were alive). Why the hell would anyone!?  Hell, my parents are lucky they aren't alive today, cuz I'd probably have moved back in on them so that I could afford a Gixxer!  :flipoff:

Actually, a running joke with my son and myself is that we love each other to pieces, but we SURE don't want to LIVE together!

I think your heart's in the right place, An, but your posts sound "holier than thou" and oh-so-jealous! ;)

I think as we get older, we get less concerned about what the rest of the world is doing (and are perhaps less offended by our perceived view of the stupidity of others) and concentrate more on what we can do to in our own individual way to stay out of the way of those we've previously perceived as "stupid" (and maybe help them be less "stupid" because it benefits *us* to help THEM not kill us or themselves;)).

If ya' have a job that you don't think pays you enough, find a new one. If ya' think your boss is shaftin' ya', find a new one. If ya' think you're not making enough money, go make more. If you're making the choice to be underpaid, under-appreciated, and over-worked, then why complain (and why complain that Johnny's parents are giving him money when your parents aren't giving YOU money! BooHoo! )? Do something about it! :P  :icon_mrgreen:

I actually am fixing the fairings, but only for insurance purposes.  I sucks.

I just switched to another company, and this new company wants to take pictures for collision and comprehensive insurance.  If they see the bike in the scratched up condition, in their books, the R6 will be valued less.  If the R6 was totaled in an accident, the insurance company would give me the balue MINUS the cost to repair the plastics, since it was already damaged.  I'm waiting for the replacements so I can slap those on and have the pictures taken, then put the damaged ones back on for regular riding (until I get all the drops out of the way).

I considering putting the stock exhaust back on too, just in case.

Pandy - I guess my only complaint (which I guess didn't come out right) is the fact that kids are not taught the right lessons in life.  They don't have enough respect for anything anymore.  Sometimes I wish I was born earlier in the century...  Life would have PROBABLY been better.
