using mirrors from a tuck?

When the wind buffeting gets too bad, like crossing an open bridge, I ride in a tuck, with my head down near the tank behind my OEM upper cowling (big nose fairing).  But I can't see the traffic around me in the mirrors (duh!), so I have to do all my looking with head-checks.  I'm sure that I look like a bobble-head sometimes, checking left and right.

I was wondering if anybody had a way to use a mirror while tucked down?  I was thinking, maybe I could put bar-end mirrors hanging down from the ends of the handlebars (or maybe sticking up?), and adjust them so that I can see through them while in the tuck (obviously, they would be useless when riding upright).  Not sure if fish-eye or flat mirrors would be better; or if this is even practical.

I guess I could always try replacing the stock cowling windshield with a taller one; the angle is about right.

there is no way you can have mirrors that will work in both a tuck and sitting up, unless they are mounted on your helmet.  Quick head checks are your only option.   :thumb:   Unless you get 2 sets of mirrors, one for tucking and one for situp.

Some guys angle the mirrors so that one can see in the upright position and the other has a good view while tucked.

Myself, when I am in full racer tuck, no one else is going to be going faster than me so I don't care whats going on behind me.  :mrgreen:

You can get those little stick-on wide angle round mirrors. If you put a small one on each mirror, you will still be able to use the normal mirror in the unpright riding position, and still have some view when you are in a tuck.

They actually give you a wider view when riding normal too, with the drawback that the view is distorted, and you've lost some of the flat mirror area.

That's what I meant: leave the OEM mirrors up for upright riding, and add a pair of bar-end mirrors for when I'm in the tuck.  As far as going faster than everyone else: this is my first summer riding, so I'm taking it easy  :thumb:  I just use the tuck to avoid windblast when I cross open bridges, exit from tunnels and the like.

You won't be able to see a bar end mirror because your head will be literally between the bars on a GS.

Hey you could do what some of the MOTOGP riders do and look underneath their arm at the MC's behind them.  hehe. :thumb:
