Anti-drug commercials are REALLY starting to piss me off...

So much bullshit.  So much propaganda.  So much nonsense.  So much lying.

The final straw was seeing some anti-alcohol commercial on Fox earlier telling me that a drunk driver kills one person in the U.S. every 13 minutes.  Lets do some math:

There are 525,948.766 minutes in a year.

525,948.766 / 13 = 40,457.5974

That comes to a total of 40,457.5974 dieing every year in an accident involving a drunk driver.

According to the U.S. Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, in 2002 there were nearly 43,000 fatalities due to automobil accidents on the whole.  I couldn't find more up to date numbers, but I can't see it being that much higher now.

According to this commercial, almost EVERY automobil related death would have to be at fault of a drunk driver.  Right.  That's realistic.  In reality there is a death every thirteen minutes in general, but these f%&ked up anti-drug morons are trying to make it sound like it's all alcohol's fault.  The truth is that alcohol IS, in fact, the reason behind a staggering number of deaths every year; approximately 4,800.  That number is gargantuan in my opinion, but trying to pump it up with propaganda is wrong.  In all honesty, and this fact is undeniable, 100% of automobil fatalities are the fault of idiots.

At least those people are attacking a substance that should be more strictly regulated.  What pisses me off more than alcohol commercials are the marajuana commercials.  See, cocain/meth/heroine/speed/prescription drugs/etc...shaZam! you can OD on or accidentally cause someone else to OD with, I can see the strong regulation and illegalization.  It's all bad shaZam!.  Marajuana, though?  Alcohol kills thousands of people on the road every year and anyone with an ID saying they're 21 can go out and buy a case.  Marajuana, a drug which hasn't killed anyone...ever...will land your ass in jail.  That little bit of bullshit pisses me off.

I can deal with it, though, if they'll just stop playing those f%$king commercials with the little alien that comes down and steals the stoner's girlfriend.  I mean what the f%$k are they saying about women?  That your only option is to sit miserably by your stoner emo boyfriend because it'd take an extraterrestrial lifeform to rescue you?  What flaming bullshit.  Chicks...if you're dating a stoner and his habit is a problem you are deserving of no sympathy unless you're legless, armless, and have no voice to ask smoeone to wheel-barrow your ass out of there.

Dude, you need to go build something instead of watching TV.

I have to wonder though if they are including pedestrians and other innocent bystanders in their numbers and not just people driving or riding in cars.

Here's the weird thing from an Injury Epidemiology perpspective.  43000 is like some magical number in car crashes.  Regardless of new laws, and safety devices the annual mortality rate due to automobile accidents is always 42-43k.  kinda strange

Legalize marijuana; our prisons would practically empty out. Legalize all drugs; Darwin could take over at that point, and then the crime rate would drop (and gov't could collect taxes on billions of dollars worth of drug sales, and there'd be no future excuse for gutting "entitlement" programs such as Medicare and Social Security). Drive under the influence, have your license and ability to own a vehicle of any kind rescinded for at least 5 years (after one gets out of prison...can't drive to work? Move closer to public transportation).

While the number of deaths actually attributable to drunk driving might be inflated, I'm sure each family who's had a member killed by a drunk driver feels that any punishment meted out is pathetically inadequate (and I agree with them).

There was a blurb on the news last night about how the Federal gov't is prosecuting people in California who are growing/using marijuana for medicinal purposes (eg. for pain). I think every last gov't official who is against the medicinal use of marijuana should be struck with a year of extremely debilitating, severe pain. Let's see how long they'd continue to prosecute cancer and pain patients after that....

Ok....what can I rant about next....  :icon_twisted:

my favorite was the group of young guys in a car getting high on pot. they were going through the drive through at a local fast food joint, then all of the sudden they hit some little girl on a bicycle.  Ok there are some flaws with this one.

#1. what the hell is a little girl about the age of 3 or 4 doing riding a bike in the drive through area?  either she is a crack baby or the people who created the commercial are off their rockers.

#2 Pot does not make that un alert. INFACT it makes you almost paranoid in public. you drive slower and more cautiously. and I still to this day have not heard of a single wreck or death in an automobile caused by marajauna.

the next one is the kid who smokes a joint then blows his head off with a shot gun.  ok this is way off the rocker. I think if he really had smoked pot he would be laughing to hard to do anything that stupid.  Another stupid point that I have not heard a single fact about.

I read a study that caffine actually has a worse affect  on the brain than marajauna does.   I dont see any commercials about that. what about sticking a nail in a jar of coke and closing the lid and having it eatin away by the acid in the coke? yea real good for you. so much better than everything else.

Ah but you see the soda companies have a lot of money. Lots of money = lots of bargaining power at any political and media level. While the pot growers here in Humbolt county may have a lot of money....they don't necessarily want anyone to know that

What you have to remember is that not everyone can pick up a joint, get a nice tilt, put it down and go to work.  Some folks start down the road of pot and eventually find themselves in meth town or a cocain day dream.

Alcohol = money.  That's why it's legal.  Money all across the board.  Legalization of drugs by the Gov would make serious cash on the front end.  On the back end, the Gov would be losing money taking care of a nation full of rotten mouth meth addicts well into thier old age (45-50).  The Gov doesn't really care if you're a drunk or drug addict, as long as it doesn't cost them any money.

haha true. while I was in airforce tech school there was a huge drug bust in CALI. it was a friend of the guy i went to tech school with haha. we watched it on the news,,, he was pissed!!!  ok so this guy owned tons of property and houses and he said he rented them out. but in reality all he did was use the houses to grow pot in. they  found like tons of this stuff. he was pretty rich. pretty good idea too. wonder which jack ass tipped him off.

well you could say alchohol leads to beating your wife or somthing? it causes that in some people and in others it doesnt. thats on the person.. legalize pot use the oils and create more jobs a long with tons more resorce.

if it was leagal I would  puff a joint or two, or a few gravities, or some shot guns haha.

but I dont do that stuff. I cant even think of it being in the military. I guess its hard to regulate how much POT you smoke though like you can with alchohol.  oh well . I dont smoke it I dont really care if it gets leagalized or not

My girlfriend smacked me in public when we were at a movie theater and one of those commercials came on.

It was the one where the kid was running from the guard dogs and trying to hop a fence, and the dogs get him- cut scene, "Marijuana has ruined my life".

So of course, I laughed really loud hysterically. And apparently I was the only one who found that hilarious.

Frankly, Pot would kill less people than cigarettes. There have been more documented cases of alcohol related deaths than marijuana related deaths (If they even exist- I guess eating 1 too many 7-11 microwave burritos might be an indirect side effect)

When's the last time you saw a bunch of stoned kids get into a fist fight in public? When's the last time you saw a bunch of meatheads get out of control and molest girls while stoned? When's the last time you saw a driver who lit one up and flew into a guardrail on the interstate doing 95? (Maybe doing 15)

Obviously it's a money issue... again it goes back to businessmen politicians helping their alcohol and tobacco lobbyist friends. God forbid big tobacco has a competative product.

Ah, the gateway drug theory.  Almost everyone who's addicted to drugs started with pot; therefore pot is to blame.  You know, almost everyone who's addicted to drugs went to school first; therefore school is to blame.  Almost everyone who's addicted to drugs drove a car first; therefore cars are to blame.  Absolutely everyone who's addicted to drugs ate food first; therefore food is to blame.  So...are you understanding the absurdity of that argument yet?

Now, if you can show that everyone who smokes pot goes on to become addicted to drugs, then you might have a point, but you can't, and you don't.

 Sounds like we've found our group of Poth Eads.  Ok, Kid blows his head off after getting high...  WTF! I wish we had that commercial here in Canada. If he was stressed about something ... anything ... he would have forgotten about it, or realized its no biggie after lighting up ... so extremely exaggerated.

Actually, the latest news is that the tobacco companies *increased* the amount of nicotine (which is highly addictive) in their cigarettes on the sly, making it harder and harder for those addicted to quit.

hey, you can make pot tea too, Egaeus, theres still hope for you yet...

you can't really rant about raids on people with med cards. I have a med card, they're easy to get, you don't have to be a cancer patient. I have it for headaches and a back injury. (both are real, i do get dehabilitating migranes but pot makes them worse...and the back injury was job related, long story though) I don't smoke but once in a blue moon anymore, but i still have it and could legally...

And cigarettes, well, i can't really talk there. I keep trying to quit but it never works... yet!
