IMO - It's a good call for those hell bent on not using a helmet.

I like my face.  but If I were at a rally cruz'n down the strip I'd wear one of these. maybe.  :dunno_white:

My personal choice is to keep my face AND my brain (as humble as both may be). :icon_mrgreen: I don't think the ribcap is "cool" enough to be worn by those who refuse to wear a helmet (at least from their perspective)....  :dunno_white:

That's ridiculous.  They can't possibly market that a legitimate alternative to real helmets.  What is going to stop it from falling right off when you go tumbling down the road?  I guess it's better than nothing at all, but not by much.

3imo

I think "better than nothing"  sums it up.

above 40mph and your begging for coloring books for christmas.

helmets also protect from impact, I seriously doubt that would at all.

Actually, if you'd read the article, the caps are made from a material that hardens immediately upon impact and won't deform, but when not under pressure, is soft and pliable, like regular cloth. So they skullcap DOES protect against impact. However, I HIGHLY doubt it will protect against abrasion.

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

What is the point? Seriously, if you're not going to bother protecting your BRAIN all the way, then you shouldn't even half-ass it.

If it hardens on impact and doesn't deform it would transfer a majority of the impact straight to your skull.  I wouldn't use something that reads like it was made for skiers on my head while riding my bike.  I'll stick with a good old fashion full face helmet that straps on :thumb:

The thread is motorcycle related because the article specifically mentions its possible use for motorcyclists.

As NGFL pointed out, had you read the article, you would see that they are touting the impact resistance specifically.

Safety NAzi's take note, I am not endorsing the product, just posting it to see what yall think.

Cruz'n down the strip at a Rally, anyone with a fullface sticks out like a green thumb. In that case I would use one of these caps. Maybe.

I truely believe all riders should always wear helmets, but I don't believe in forcing them too.

This material would be a big plus if our Jackets and pants were reinforced with it, Last wreck I had my elbows and knees swelled up more from impact then abrasion.

I thought this is an interesting enough topic to post. Next time I will PM you, just to be sure.  :kiss3:

Well, duh, I wasn't saying it was a good idea. I was just pointing out the fallacy in your statement.

I'm just being an ass and i wanted to use that picture .  It was interesting, I understand how it would work but coming from what i understand about conventional helmets i don't think that would cushion your head/brain enough, of course i am being an ass over a fraction of an inch more than likely.

For discussion sake though i think that stuff would be great in riding jackets and pants.

Wearing that is smarter than stabbing yourself in the face...  But, not by much.

makenzie71

The last time I was on the ground it was a tripple digit lowside.  I remember sitting up and putting a palm on the ground only to have it whipped out from under me...because I was still sliding feet-first across the tarmac.  My helmet took a really score across the back.  I'd like to see a "stocking cap" even stay on your head in such an event.

Stupidest thing I've ever seen.

RVertigo

You don't think stabbing yourself in the face is worse?  Hmm...

I'm still going for stabbing yourself in the face being higher on the stupid charts...  But, not by much.
