Thought I'd put up so pics of the area.
parkway near the Dragon

215 I really want to ride this road!

ben2go

I went to Skyuka Mountain today. The roads turn back over theirselfs.I think I made it to 30mph before I had to brake hard for a turn. Most of the grade is 9-12%.Coming down you feel like you're going to flip over.Once you're at the top,you can see the truck stop near my home,20 miles away. Lovely 2 hour round trip.I went the long way.  ;)

I've got one trip map that would go in a big circle and hit these roads. We can decide to go or not when we see what the Dragon Traffic looks like mid day. either way I can't what!

HEY! I just got myself set up on the forum.  I'm in Asheville, NC, and will be headed up to the dragon on Saturday morning for a day of hanign out and riding.  Anyone in the area or who will be passing thru that day?  We could meet up and head up there from AVL.

I gave the ride route some thought.  Last year we did the Cherohala...see what you think of this idea...

If you check this map, you can see all the roads I'm talking about.

I'll be comin' from Gatlinburg across Little River Road, North on 73, then west on 321 to Foothills Parkway, and across to 129.  I'm riding down the Dragon to meet with you all at the resort.  Last year we met up there at 10:00 AM.  That would be a great time again.  If you're interested, we could take 28 east to 19 north all the way in to Cherokee(a good place to lunch and fuel up), and finally back up Newfound Gap Road over the mountains through the park to complete the loop.  It takes about an hour to get from G'burg to the Crossroads of Time, so I anticipate the whole loop to take about four hours, not including stops.  All those roads are good afaik (the only road I haven't ridden is 19).  They won't be as busy as the dragon, and by the time the group got back to 129 it would be in the afternoon and maybe a little less traffic...but probably not.

What do you all think?  Anyone else have any ideas?  I just know that we've been throwing around random ideas, so this is a little more concrete.

I'm counting down...

feedback...
Something is wrong with my twin...all of a sudden it's V shaped!  Wait, no, now it's a triple!  ...and I IZ NOT a postwhore!

the main thing i want to do is get on to 28 and go to franklin (i think it is) that was the best road and it was raining. silly me i was trying to drag a nee,  :cookoo:  that changed soo after i slid the rear for about 10 feet.

dude i'm good for any thing, the only thing i need to stop for is bathroom and water... and maybe gas i should avg 200 miles per tank... no what i got the 14T sprocket on so make that 170.

as for the dragon it self early moring and late afternoon are the best day time riding there... but the real fun is at night

and i hope that the blind test for the rear brake tq arm is right as i bent the shaZam! out of it easly with the 80 ton press as work. i guess a hammer will fine tune it.

I don't think you'll get even 170 If you go to 28, I'm there.

Newfound gap road is pretty but extremly packed. I was on it to go to Cades Cove two weeks ago never got over 30mph

We have two good rides set out that both pass the Dragon, very cool. One is very twisty and very little traffic the other is twisty at parts    (I've never been to the Foothills Parkway but It looks like a calm ride.)

I personaly like twisty roads and very little traffic, Lets find more low traffic curvy roads. Thats why most of you guys are coming.

I've been talking to locals tring to find the best roads in the area. so far I have posted the best ones I know of.

Love Cades Cove.Hiked the mountain one summer in the middle of july.Learned that bears like to play after dark. They got on of our packs that was hung up between 2 trees to keep them out.We lost some of our food before we scared them off. What fun.
