Looking forward to it guys!  Hey Ranger and/or Ash, I'm heading down on Tuesday to Gatlinburg, so I'll be there all the way through.  I don't know if I'll have internet access, so if any changes are made, or if we decide on meeting times, can I PM one of you with my cell # and have you give me a call?

I plan to ride the heck out of the park roads!!   :thumb:
Something is wrong with my twin...all of a sudden it's V shaped!  Wait, no, now it's a triple!  ...and I IZ NOT a postwhore!

If you have time ride about 3-4 hours and want good twisties follow this route. 441-New found gap road toward Cherrokee This road is not one of my favorite, Fill gas in cherokee, turn around a go back down 411 about 2 miles look for the Blue Bidge Parkway on your right. Perfect road very twisty, Ride, Ride, Ride turn around and go back when your ready.

Blue Ridge Parkway is fairly smooth from the arboretum to Cherokee, but arboretum to Mt.Mitchell,is rough as hell.Spend most of the time dodging pot holes.

Hey Ranger, are you bringing your camera again?  If so, I have a $5 mount on my bars we can hook it to...or you could use duct tape.   :icon_lol:  Ok, maybe that joke's a little tired.  Anyway, if you want to be on the camera instead of following everyone, let me know!  If not, I'll take the mount off before I come over.  :thumb:

JUST SO EVERYONE KNOWS...BEWARE OF POLICE ON THE FOOTHILLS PARKWAY!!!  :flipoff: THERE ARE RANGERS UP THERE WHO HAVE MADE IT THIER #1 PRIORITY TO HIT BIKERS WITH HUGE FINES FOR SPEEDING, ETC.  ONE OF THEM HAS EVEN GONE ON PUBLIC RECORD SAYING SO.   :icon_twisted: SO TAKE IT EASY ON THE STRAIGHTS AND HAUL ASS THROUGH THE TURNS, THAT'S MY BEST ADVICE BESIDES AVOIDING IT ALTOGETHER.

if any one has any incite on how to replace gauge lights i will be ever so grateful. my last trip there i have to double back to get my wallet. and in the process lets say there was some maneuvers on the interstate that were not so legal and the bike took the toll for that with lots of vibration

Yeah, I read that thread and made one up.  I've used it a couple of times with different cameras.  With a digital camera it's very shaky in the upper rpms, but with an actual video camera with image stabilization, it works well enough.  I used it with my Sony Cybershot on a bike ride recently on a blast down a runway, and when I got up in my RPMs you could make out other bikes and the runway, but it the vibrations were crazy.

I gave the ride route some thought.  Last year we did the Cherohala...see what you think of this idea...

http://www.nps.gov/grsm/planyourvisit/upload/trails2005.pdf

If you check this map, you can see all the roads I'm talking about.

I'll be comin' from Gatlinburg across Little River Road, North on 73, then west on 321 to Foothills Parkway, and across to 129.  I'm riding down the Dragon to meet with you all at the resort.  Last year we met up there at 10:00 AM.  That would be a great time again.  If you're interested, we could take 28 east to 19 north all the way in to Cherokee(a good place to lunch and fuel up), and finally back up Newfound Gap Road over the mountains through the park to complete the loop.  It takes about an hour to get from G'burg to the Crossroads of Time, so I anticipate the whole loop to take about four hours, not including stops.  All those roads are good afaik (the only road I haven't ridden is 19).  They won't be as busy as the dragon, and by the time the group got back to 129 it would be in the afternoon and maybe a little less traffic...but probably not."

What do you all think?  Anyone else have any ideas?  I just know that we've been throwing around random ideas, so this is a little more concrete.

as for camping i highly suggest deals gap resort, (dealsgap.com) as thats what i have done every time, but hell any thing is good thats jsut my sugestion and its right there at the gap.

count down is t-minus 4 days

How much is camping at the resort?

10:am is good as any time would be.

I would rather not ride New Found Gap it sucks I just did it a couple weeks ago the road sucks, the traffic sucks and did I say the traffic sucks. I like more twisties, and there a lot better roads IMO.
If the majority goes that way than I'll follow.

I'll most likely be out Fri. evening If anyone wants to hook up then.

rangerbrown

i should be there by friday... at i guessing 12pm
camping is like 12$ for the week end, but last time i forgot to pay and went into pay and the girl said how long have you been here? i said 3 nights she said well dont worry about it have a good trip home. and off i went.

yea i'm also more into twistys my self as well

Hey guys, I just suggested that route because it's a great road (even if there's traffic), and it's a loop, so we never have to re-ride a road.  But, as always, I'm open to suggestions.  I just didn't want to waste prime riding time discussing what roads we should take  :cookoo:.  If anyone has a plan, I'm for it.

I'm leaving tomorrow morning for G'burg.  I don't know If I'll be able to check the board again before Sat. so if you don't hear from me...see you at 10:00 AM at the resort!!

I was thinking you guys from out of town would like to see the best these mountains had to offer. This route is also a round trip and about the same amount of time. I really would like to ride these roads, I've only hit hwy215 in a car, but I posted pics of the road earlier in this thread. Also I thought it would be cool to get a group pic at the highest point on the parkway. I know Rangerbrown wanted to hit Hwy28 and this trip will pass through there at the end. " If you haven't Been to 28, you realy need to. There are more good road out there but the local riders have all told me to ride these.

Hell If you guys would like we could ride both! I just want to meet and ride with these crazy GS people. :thumb:

Even though I live in the area I think I'm going to camp just to be with the croud.

alright, so I tried to get Mapquest directions and couldn't get the Parkway. I did find a road that I had not herd of before 215, it runs between the parkway in Haywood county and 64 in Transylania county. This ride would be about 4.5 - 5 hours, passes the highest point of the Blue Ridge parkway, tight twisties most of the ride, minimal highway travel, Extremly low traffic, great views, mostly perfect roads, and plenty of good stopping points.

On my drive today I took note of the roads,

1-10 1 being striaght 10 being the Dragon

The Blue Ridge Parkway: 7 the whole time
215:                             8 at the begining, 3 for a few miles, 9 at the end
64:                               7 mostly, 8 at times
28:                               5 at the begining, strong 9 at the end
129:                              6 at the begining, and then you hit the Dragon!

1-10 1 being bad "pot holes ect." 10 being perfect

The Blue Ridge Parkway:  10 mostly several dark tunnels, no gravel spoted , more bikes then cars, light traffic
215:                              7 rougher textured pavenemt but in good shape, one turn with gravel 3 cars on 17 miles
64:                                6-8 few bad spots-constuction spots not worked on weekends, little grave at spots, med-light traffic
28:                                not recently traveled 7-8 most of the times I've been out light traffic
129:                              10 most of the time, very little traffic until the Dragon heavy traffic on the good part "sucked"

Sence the R6 club and other did their Television show there it has been pack every weekend, early moring is the best time to ride "as far as I know."

I thought I would post this as an option and awnser to GeeP, I will not in any way be upset if noone wants to do it. But I think it would be a fun ride.

Heavy traffic sucks, we can ride the Dragon until it gets packed and then go out on our own, if you guys would like.

Hope this was helpful!

Oramac I live about 45 min from G'burg and have a shop full of tools, If you need anything let me know. That goes for anyone else also.
