tomorrow afternoon I get to do a photoshoot of a f16 taking off and flying. one of my coworkers at the base is getting an incentive flight and im loaning him my mini DV cam to video his ride and I get to do some photos of him getting in the plane and taking off. I'm going to post them all here if anyone is interested in looking.

damn it. it had fuel problems. we only have one two cocpit f16 and since we are moving to the f22 some of the f16's have been on the back burner. next thursday I will get the pics when the fuel issue is solved. better that it happend on the ground rather than in the air or we might have lost a multi million dollar f16 and two guys taking a ejection seat ride .

what do you guys use to test them? universal test stand/ hydro mule/mini mule? i build these things for a living and am just wondering we sent one of our mules the the boeing co. today and im also working on another stand for global aero.

they are going to other units. texas has got a bunch actually and some went to FL the rest are going to DC.  they have another 8-10 years in their term. honestly the f22 isn't that much more special. the JSF is pretty valuble though. F22 is pretty sweet but there are still a lot more bugs to work out with them.

I am not too sure  what systems they run to test them out , fuel shop guys are the ones that deal with that, then we have flight line avionics. I am a metals tech guy (machinist/welder) they have some crazy system that runs the plain like it would in the air powers it and runs through all the functions. Im cross training into avionics probly when I go to langly though. then I can tell you lol.

that is pretty sweet that you build that stuff though.  who do you work for?

i can tell you then i have to kill you lol jk i work for a company called american lab & systems. and we have almost the same setup for testing our units but we have an aircraft simulater its cool to watch those being tested but when something blows it sucks especially when we are using skydrol that stuff burns. i wanted to get into aviation but didnt really want to get back into being a mechanic i liek what i do and i learned alot where i am at but good luck with the avionics hope the best for you.

Im not familier with skydrol is that like a hydrolic fluid that runs through the plane to simulate its functions?

when they have any kind of fuel leak on our planes they shut everything down and bring in our hazmat team. good old hydrozine. lol

sounds really cool what you do and it sounds like it PAYS well too. eventually I would love to get on with lockhead martin
