I just picked up a "new to me" 93 GS, I was wondering if anyone knows how dificult it is to retrofit some bodywork from a GS500F.  from what I can tell the freames are all pretty much the same, so I would imagine mount points would be fairly similar.  any input would be great thanks.

search "E to F conversion"... you'll find at least 10 threads on the topic. Short answer: Can be done, but lots of work/time/effort/money... and why? Maybe mount up an '01+ tank and tail... but why all the fugly plastic?

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

Not only that but the fairings actually offer some wind protection for your legs.  Get out on the highway on a cool Spring morning in the North East wearing a pair of jeans and you will definitely notice a difference.  Spring up here can go from 30 in morning to 80 in the afternoon back to 30 again at night.

I'm riding in the 28* range every morning on my naked. Get a decent set of pants, it's cheaper and easier than adding new fairings. (I don't have good pants, BTW.. I ride in jeans)

"Ooohh, I don't like it out here in the wind, let me back in my shell where I'm protected!". Sounds like the rallying cry of a cager to me.

IMHO, being "out there" is almost the definition of motorcycling.

Yeah, fairings can be more comfortable. So can a Buick.  ;)

Agree'd.  I converted my 2005 GS500F to a naked bike a year ago and I haven't looked back.  For me, motorcycling isn't about comfort and praticality...if it was I would be in my cage with the heat cranked up.

I'm planning on going the other way.
I have an '04 and have everything I need to make it a naked. Just haven't had the time to do it.

Yeah, I like to be comfortable when I ride.  So sue me.  That's why I bought a F instead of an E.  I like the fairings and the added wind protection.  I like the fairing look better too.  Just a matter of choice really.  I'll be honest, I'm not a diehard rider (at least not yet).  I get out when the weather is nicer and I'm usually a cager when it is colder out.  I'll suck it up for a morning commute when the temps are supposesed to be nice for the rest of day though.  I guess I'm more of a casual rider.  Probably something to do with not being old school either since I just started riding about a month ago.  At least I chose a good bike to start with.

Thanks,  and all the plastic is cause I ride through most of the year, and believe me when your rolling down the highway in early NOV the wind protection will be very much appreciated.

I don't disagree with any of that.  This is my 2nd GS, the first I bought almost specificly because I liked the looks of it.  Now that my first one is totaled, I'm thinking of trying something different.  If at any time I decide i don't like it I just take the plastic off, and keep rolling.

As for being a cager, I am partially a cager, but not by choice.  I unfortunately have very little time for joy rides, and most long trips I have 2 little ones that come with.   Being that the oldest one can barely reach the foot pegs I really can't take either of them on the bike.  But, I do still manage to put 4-5k on the bike every year between March, and November.

In addition to being ready for something different farings will keep me warmer when I do take longer trips.  Staying warm conserves energy, and reduces fatigue, and that improves A)my ability to ride, and B) the miles I can put on without endangering myself.

That's some of my reasoning, and like Wryder said I have no problem with people disagreeing with me.....as long as they realize I'm right   LOL ;)

The naked versions use the exact same turn signals as your F does.  The little ears on the fork brackets mount em' right up.

Lets not kid ourselves, the strangely proportioned fairings don't make a GS any closer to a supersport.  Heres a before and after of my bike.  To me, the naked verson looks tough.

it doesnt make it closer to a SS but the fairings give it that look. at least from far away.

Why; just paint yours?  :dunno_white:

GS is my only transportation. If I had a beater bike or car to take to work, I'd strip the GS down to the frame, paint/powdercoat/rhinoliner it, clean EVERYTHING, put it all back together piece by loving piece. But I can't afford to do it, timewise.. sadly

As much as I love the fairings...the GS does look VERY good naked.
