I am buying gs500 and there is no such bike in my city.
Since i would like to know if it is working properly i would like to hear how should engine work.
I was unable to find sound of not modified engine/exhaust in net.
Could you please direct me to some place i can find such a sound, or it would be great if someone could record such a sound :)
Preety please  :)

hehe.. im working on that.. ill get some clips asap. But basically you can tell if there is something really wrong. ONe thing to watch for is if there is NO valve noise at all.. that means they are too tight.

Air cooled bikes are typically more noisy than liquid cooled, so expect some noises. But any loud tapping or clicking noises should be checked out (or avoided)

GO on www.google.com ( I like it ) and enter " gs500e ". Go on the first website. It's in french, nevermind. Go on " videos " section, and download the 4 mp3 and wav at the bottom of the page. Open it and smile. :)

I would prefer clear sound not a part of movie.... will wait patiently for Rashad

Despite the page name, those are sound files (MP3/WAV).

Isn't there a sound clip of Anne's bike still on the main site?

Anyway, the GS doesn't have the most impressive sound of all the sportbikes.  Kinda an angry lawnmower. hehehe

Question for you Olivieeeer, on that site.  I see/hear a exhaust sound, file named http://gs500e.free.fr/videos/ancienne_gse.jpg.  What type of exhaust is that?  I can't tell.  Looking for the type/model/brand of that one.

Properly adjusted valves should make minimal noise.  My valves click when too tight.  My right exhaust valve is a little too tight and it makes a terrible noise.

There's no telling what kind of exhaust that is from the picture.  Looks like a factory can off of some other bike.

The people above are all gone as this thread is from 2003.

Record a Singer under load and play it back with the sound turned up a bit.   :thumb:

Am I listening to a different sound clip than the others commenting.  This sound clip I am hearing is a deep almost like a flowmaster that you hear on trucks sort of sound.  Like a deep rumble.  I would almost say sounding like a cruiser.  I was trying to figure out from that website (using google to translate it), but it still doesn't clear it up for me.  Not sure if that Oliveeeer website is that gs500e.free.fr site.  But I might try to e-mail on that one.  If he knows english.  I was trying to look at that pic too, and it looked like it was OEM.  I just wasn't sure.

At idle my stock GS sounds a lot like a riding lawnmower.  The valvetrain makes a fairly loud mechanical hiss/whirl/tick sound.  When it's revved up it actually sounds pretty good.  I've never felt the need to add an exhaust.
