Its cosmetically beautiful and mechanically great. Ideal for a short person, or beginner or a woman or all 3 ...  O0 ... or 2 of the 3 or 1 of the 3 or none of the 3 like me ... This is my third savage and I can show you what the internals of a savage look like cos I have 2 that are apart in my garage.

You sure about that ???
I can bet ya ... a savage is atleast 20% GS. Now my savage is more than likely closer to 40%.
Cool.

Serious pandy, the savage looks good in metallic light purple, or sorta like purple mixed in with steel grey ... but my powder guy doesn't stock that.
I did one body set in a biscuit color that made some people swoon ... but I prefer the yeller myself ...
Cool.

This is the only one I have left. Maxim is gone, vulcan is gone, virago is getting powdered - nose to tailpipes ...

The latest mod not in the pic is that the exhaust has been powdercoated black and has a harley can on it. It hasn't been cored, but is still loud, can get louder if cored.
Looks and sounds like a baby harley now.
Cool.

nice looking bike.

I had considered getting one before I got my GS.
Still wonder if I would be more comfortable on the S40.
My knees start bothering me after a couple of hours on the GS.
I guess they don't like being bent that much any more.

Sorry for the Hijack but could you give a comparison on how the two bikes differ in the handling and performance dept?

Is the S40 OK at decent hiway speeds? etc...

Its a little more spread out than a GS. Not quite full splay like a harley.
The savage is good on several levels over a GS. Its very low, and if you're doing a lot of stopping it may hurt your knees. But its got threaded valve adjusters, its super super light, its got cheap ass tires that will last 2-3 times than of a GS and belt drive - never change it.
The bike vibrates a good bit and will prolly just barely keep with a GS though. Handling is typical cruiser as is braking.
Looooooong and loooooooow is what its all about.
Cool.

Hey Srinath,
Does this one have an engine number?
:)
Just playing with you.

Of course not ... what you think I am ... someone who has numbers on stuff ...
If it has numbers man, everyone can tell what it is ... even my jets dont have numbers.
Basically my rejet job is where I take your carbs and file off all the numbers. Off with all of them.
Cool.

This bike hasn't quite been that sheltered, its got 15K miles and is ridden daily. Its also been parked outside mostly - atleast the last 10 years has been outside. However its in very good condition. Almost in the same league as the maxim I just sold and the virago I am powdercoating. Almost, because I believe yamaha in the mid 80's put a lot thicker layer of powder or paint or epoxy some or other on their frames. Almost in the same league as harleys of the 01+ vintage. 20+ years of outside living and the virago hasn't got but a few nicks in the frame to show for it. And those are usually tool marks and the odd rock chip.
Yellow and black make a great combo IMHO. On a savage it also looks right. The savage doesn't look that good in cold colors. Blue, purple anything in that spectrum. Silver is the coldest that will look OK on it IMHO. The reds, yellows, whites etc ... all work so does black and probably green. I saw a steel grey one that looked OK I thought, but I dont believe anything compared to the candy red it came with, and this yellow runs a close second. I also have a coffee with cream colored body for it which looks stellar while unusual at the same time. Like I said warm colors.
On a side note the eliminator I have/had looks absolutely comical in warm colors. Blue is its best color IMHO, purple, indigo, violet and pretty much anything including and colder than silver will be fine as is black.
Strange but that is how it works. They painted the eli in burgundy stock and it absolutely makes you want to throw up. That way suzuki picked some good colors for their bikes IMHO.
Yamaha and kawasaki are some seriously color handicapped companies. On a virago 1100 they painted the tank 2 tone - burgundy and brown. Again pathetic and WTF are those 2 colors doing next to each other anyway. Oh yea, the motor and frame trim was Chrome and gold. Again WTF ...
Honda's also had some decent color choices. Nothing looked too stupid IMHO.
Cool.
