MPG?

im getting between 35-40mpg and i was reading another thread and people were saying theyre getting between 45-60mpg now what could possibly be bring with my mpg? plugs are relatively new and the only engine mod is a k&n airfilter the bolt in kind.. im running a 2004 gs500f ? what would be things for me to check or change to get better gas millage?? thanks

the way you ride...driving style has alot to do with it.
good gas mileage is boring riding

^last line = total bs.  My CX gets 50+ driving around at WOT pretty much all the time.  Driving style does have a lot to do with it, but not so much to drop 20mpg off the group average.

First assumption would be that the bike's jetted way rich but that'd be easy to determine...she'd feel sluggish and the plugs would be completely coated in soot.

my GS used to get about 20 MPG......
flat slides are fun.....

justin, just cause your cx gets...what ever .....actually has no relation to what a GS gets
i'm trying to figure out how someone can get 60 with a GS?
i only got mid 40's when i rode my last street GS....then again i usually rode in 2nd-4th gears only and 7-11k

heck I can't get 50 with my pimpmobile...even though I read on the net that one guy is getting 56-60 in his pimpmobile
I have had a best of 47 and a worst of 39....i'm thinking new tranny to get 50+....different final drive

Yeah I just hadn't told anyone they're full of shaZam! yet today...it's like my vitamins.

He shouldn't have any problem getting 55gpm (US gallons) if he rides like a sane person, though.  What the hell's a pimpmobile?

actually it's a metro....
the swifts came with the big engine(GTI)
1.3 dohc had the same power at the sprint T-3
but was N/A
only europe got a awd version, i think

I ride a 2008 GS500F.  My last fill up I got 58.9 MPG.  When riding solo I shift at 4,000 RPM'S and riding with my wife I shift between 5,000 and 6,000 RPM'S.  Not sure what I get when riding double.  Ride safe.

I have been getting around 50-56 MPG on my 2004  GS500F, about 180 miles on the trip before switching to reserve.  I recently took a long road trip (300 miles) and was riding... spiritedly.. on the highway and was surprised when the bike started sputtering out of fuel at 130, switch to reserve and filled up.  MPG was calculated at 38 by my app.

On the way back, I rode a little more within my limits and the MPG went back up.

So definitely how you ride can affect it.  Might also check spark plugs, make sure you dont have a leak somewhere, I am sure someone else can give more technical advice, but those would be things I would check, make sure your wheels are aligned and not rubbing, thus sapping some power. Make sure chain is lubed up nice and good.

Drove mine this weekend like it was stolen. 55.  I also rejetted and have a lunchbox filter.

60mpg bone stock and I weigh 200lbs. 

However like stokes mentioned, on a ride to Vegas she surprised me with more like 40 mpg and had to switch to reserve in the *middle of the desert*
