Ok - so the SVRider board pales in comparison to this one.  And I cannot seem to find the answer anywhere else so I thought I'd ask here.  Current model year (or 05/06), what's the difference between an SV650 and an SV650s?  From what I can tell, it's only the fairing, headlight setup, and clipons on the SVS.  Am I missing anything?  And would you get an SVS or an SV and try to find clipons?

I also think that the SVS has a little lower gearing and I know the gas tank shape is different

If I were buying an sv, which I hope to one day, I would get the svs. I like the look of it more than the sv.

Actually, I think that the only difference is the fairing and the handlebars.  The SVS is obviously a tad bit heavier.  They are the same, othewise.

I had and SVS.  Good bike but the forks are crappy.   It is cramped for my frame, too.  So if you're tall. . . look elsewhere.

6 ft on the nose.  Think it's tighter than the GS?

I'm 6'2", and I find the SV very roomy.  :dunno_white:

I just finished a 900 mile round-trip with a 2 day break in between and not so much as a sore back or wrist after either leg of the journey.

Yes, the forks are crappy.  They are the old damper-rod style forks just like the GS.  Many upgrade the springs and oil.  Others swap in a GSXR front end.  I'm not sure how that affects the ergos, though.

Oh yes, and one more difference.  I believe that the SV pegs are actually placed slightly forward of the SVS pegs.  I'm not absolutely sure about this though.

I seem to recall one or two people on the SV board discussing the option of buying the SVS and removing the top fairing to trade/sell for a bucket-light to get the street-fighter look.  I'm not sure how easy that headlight swap would be.

I think the best way to get that fighter look is to get the SV naked and purchase a bar from Suburban Machinery.

Personally, I like the SVS.  I particularly love the look of it with the factory lower fairing.  The bike gets a lot of compliments and turns a ot of heads since I put one on.

I was just about to ask if you had an S before the pix :)  I think I'm leaning towards the S myself.  The bars seem to feel more like the GS and the ergs feel a little better.  Plus, the key isn't buried beneath the bar like on the SV.

Edit: for the record ... only reason I'm looking at the SV is because the Monster is near impossible to find and a new one is just stupid $$.

My legs were cramped as hell on the SV.  And my hands went numb all the time.  But it is a good bike.   Just not right for me.

Here is what that bike did to me:

Awesome bike.  :thumb: Definitely what I want to get next, svs, either 650 or 1000 not sure which. I'd be happy with either.

That one's on my shortlist for next year sometime, alongside the Triumph675, GSXR750 and a few others (including the Kawisazi Z750 if they ever wise up and remove that butt-ugly 1/4 fairing).

that sounds like the same list of bikes I was considering before I got the 1000.  I fell in love with the daytona, but Im a poor college student, and I couldn't pass up on the deal I got on the 1000.  I love my SV.

My buddy with the SV650S is 6'3" and he loves it...  I can't look at it without my back hurting...

But, what do I know... I'm buying a Mean Streak and wondering if I should get forward controls...

Jake D

Instead of putting forward controls on a mean streak, you should just get a gynocological exam chair and put the motor out of a Civic in it.  Maybe save a couple bucks.

:kiss3: my SVS. The position is sportier on the SVS than the SV, and that's exactly what I was looking for. I didn't want to be sitting straight up anymore, but I wasn't ready for a supersport...the SVS was an excellent compromise (and he takes drops almost as well as the Baby G :icon_mrgreen:)
