Tail of the Dragon is a NC/Tenneesse highway in Western NC, look it up on web. 11 miles, 318 turns. :cookoo:
Yes I ran into a late 90s gs500. Dude was in his LATE 60s but was tearing it up. Just imagine a guy that looks like Jed Clampett. in FULL sportbike racing gear. :icon_mrgreen:
But there where stilll a lot of cruisers and liter bikes out there, most running of the side of the road.
Look it up on the web, great pics of the road, and the danger there,

I did the Dragon's Tail as well on an 84 Goldwing Standard in 2003.  My son whipped me soundly riding an 83 Honda Ascot single.  Even though I didn't win any speed prizes, I made it to the bottom without riding the shoulder like a wuss or putting the bike in the weeds.   I got to the Dragon on the Parsons Branch Road, now closed,  from Cades Cove.  The sign at the headend of the road is like something from the "Wizard of OZ" "I'd turn back if I were you".  The challenge of Parson's Branch made the Dragon look like a cake walk.
