what is a Crank Trigger and do I need a new one?

I've found "crank trigger" in the archives section here a few times, along with "auxillary ground"
during my search for why one of my cylinders isn't firing. (I just removed and cleaned my carbs).

If the left side  WAS  firing before I took everything apart, then isn't  it more likely that I just did something wrong and I need to take the carbs off again and re-check my work?

I just hate to go to a dealer and buy some $98 part if
it's not certain I need it.  (I am tired of doing that).

the left side doesn't fire at idle (the bike dies when the RIGHT wire is pulled) --but if you pull the same  wire at higher RPM's, the bike doesn't die, it just runs poorly. If that matters)

Anyone know where the "auxillary ground" is? I'm about to open my factory shop manual to look for it.
Five dollars says it isn't even mentioned there..

You prolly forgot an O ring, or vacuum line or forgot something else like the top cap rubber thingy in the carb that causes the left one to suck air.
Cool.

If the bike was running and then you went through the carbs and now it's pretty much running on one cylinder I would very much doubt that it has anything to do with your ignition.

I'm sure you just didn't put your carbs back together quite right.

To check for spark, remove your plug and then put the lead on it and hold the plug against the engine. It's easier to see the spark if you're in the dark. Just pulling the plug wire off while the engine is running won't tell you if it's ignition or carburation .

Crank triggers are usually not subject to sensitivity to RPM. Crank triggers either fail entirely (yes 1 side failure ) or fail with temperature. When cold it will run great, get ~10-20 mins in and it will die on 1 side. The usual thing is, temperature based failure will slowly turn into total failure on that side.
