WANTED: GS500 in TX

I'm looking for a GS500 in Texas. I can't spend more than $850 or so.

You are not going to find a running GS for that type of money. You are not going to find a GS that doesn't need a LOT of work for that sort of money. You're going to be lucky if you even FIND a GS around that price range. If you do find a GS around that price range it is going to be pretty trashed.

Trust me, I looked for bikes for my friend about two months ago. Cheapest we found was $1200, and it needed quite a bit of work.

My suggestion? Save your money (you'll need ~$1500 for a bike and another couple hundred for gear, and another $150 or so for the MSF course if you haven't taken it already).

Uh, I actually purchased a GS500 on this very board a few years ago for $500 bucks. All it needed was a carb job, otherwise it was perfect.

I didn't even say it needed to be running. I use to work at a Suzuki/Honda motorcycle dealership and I have connections that will get me free labor and parts at cost. And I actually have a $1,000 but I was giving myself some wiggle room.

My mistake. Usually people looking to buy a bike are newbies looking to get into motorcycling who therefore don't know much about bikes (or working on them to get them running). Most newbies don't want to deal with having to fix a bike because they'd rather just be out learning how to ride it.

I'm still a newbie rider, just a educated one

I ended up selling my bike to pay my tuition for EMT school (I made a $400 profit). I didn't regret going to EMT school but I did regret selling that bike. I just want something inexpensive that I can get fixed and putt around on.

With gas prices sky rocketing and with the nicest summer in years ... I think you're going to have to get very very lucky. But, spread out your distance and you are more likely to.

where are you located in texas, I know of a 94 (purple in color) that is for sale onwest side dallas area, I could check it is still for sdale, last time I looked at it (2 months ago) it was 900$ for it. its ran on first turn, and it was in fair shape.
let me know I can try to track it down again.
