Anyone know anything about these? I inhereted a crappy old dirtbike that's much more fun in the woods than my high strung angry bee of a CR250. I threw it up on craigslist and got the offer for the NT650. The guy is legit, I've met him before. What's the word on these bikes?

Hawk's are great, but more cult appeal than true utility. But a hawk is a GT650 not NT650.
NT650 is some weird ass dirt/street bike that only shoichiro's honda's family bought to make him not feel so bad.
Cool.

What's the power output feel like? I'm thinking it would be a good bike to commute with, and one for my dad to use on the weekends in the mountains. The GSX-R destroys me on long rides so I'm really needing a commuter. My dad rode bikes for 20 years but stopped in the 70's, and although he's done some dirt riding with me I don't want a high output bike to kill him.

Its very GS500 like. Just more ghey ... seriously ...
You're talking about a hawk not the NT650 right ...
Its a GS500 with an aluminum frame, tiny ass tank and a SS swingarm.
It prolly weighs more (water cooling and V twin = heavy), prolly uses more gas, makes marginally more power but is more torque than power ... and is pretty pretty pretty to look at. Everything is more complicated and more $$$ ... You cannot flog it like you would a GS.
Cool.

Don't listen to him.  Hawk GT's are not ghey.  They may be one of the coolest naked sportbikes of the last two decades.  Huge cult following.   The SSSA is worth the price of admission.  It was the Speedtriple before there was a speed triple.

The SV650 kills it, but as they said it has a strong cult following.  It's a Honda so I'm sure it's built well.  Worth 3000 or probably more in perfect condition.  I'd probably do it if I were you, though I don't know the value of your CR250

Dude, I would be ALL OVER that.  ALL over it.  Hawk GT is a very cool bike, WAY ahead of it's time.  Beautiful aluminum frame, the Single sided swingarm is very cool.  Plus those engines will run forever if you take care of them.

Don't compare it to an SV, LOL, of course the SV will kill it every way from Sunday, but the Hawk is still a VERY cool bike.  They handle really well, nice torque and sound from the V-twin, and you can get low 50's HP with an aftermarket exhaust, open airbox and rejet.  Plus they are smaller than the SV, if that matters. And they handle well, and REALLY well with some minor suspension upgrades (just like the SV and GS).  I know a guy that has one and he can smoke just about any rider with any bike I know on it.  He rides the piss out of that thing.

Also there is a Company that makes Carbon Fiber 6 gallon gas tanks for them.  I've seen some modded ones that look absolutley SICK.

OK go to San Francisco and sit there a few hours on the side walk, right in the city, in the south mission street area. Then come back and tell me its not Ghey.
Its like a GS, but oh so delicate and purdy and cute and has this tiny ass tank and its so purdy and has this super cool SSSA (WTF is the use of that damn SSSA on the street) ... oh yea you need a 300 dollar swingarm stand ...
Mint its worth 3K, yup ... to a mostly ghey audience ...
The SV really is a straight hawk ...
That anorexic tiny ass tank on the hawk is a dead giveaway sign ... its ghey
Its freaking freaking huckleberry hound ghey.
Cool.

I agree with these guys...  its one sexy bike.  I almost bought one once, before the gs... but it was not in good condition.  I'd be all over one that was mint...

Don't listen to the guy who digs the Savage :cookoo:

I've owned one, and I seriously loved it man. I gotta tell you, it's as easy to work on as the GS, bulletproof (I Had a few guys I knew with them go over 80K on the clock without major repair)

I can't rave enough about the bike. I regretted selling it more than anything

Johnny5

LOL, Srinath... how can you say that?  If the Hawk is Geigh, what does that make the GS? LOL  I think they are cool looking, just mod those rear plastics a bit.  Very cool little bikes.  I almost bought one, and if I had the opp that VTNewb has, I'd be ALLL over it...

Never said it wasn't cool, never said it wasn't pretty, never said it wasn't, nothing ...
I said it was Ghey ...
It is cool and pretty and unique and rare and ... ghey ...
The GS is utilitarian, the sausage is also well ... utilitarian and its actually very very cheap for each mile of road consumed. Cheap tars and no chain and simple.
The aluminum frame yea a great requirement on a street only bike, the SSSA also a huge huge important factor ... you know thoose 5 second tire changes at the pitstops ... yea, dont exist on the street.
Nice to look at, very pretty and freaking ghey ... its as important as a super hot chick and I mean super super hot - (put your fave chick here ... but Marylin Monroe will be my choice) draped on Liberace's arm.
Yea, its that useless ... and is therefore Ghey.
Anything that looks cool for the sake of looking cool = ghey.
A GS or savage is actually a chick bike. Not a Ghey bike. The Ghey Hawk is also a ghey magnet. Once again, a trip to SFO with a hawk will tell you ... you'd come back with a wallet full of ghey dude's phone numbers ... Not that there is anything wrong with that ...
Cool.

Haha, Srinath, tell us how you really feel... LOL  I think the Hawk would be more the Rock Hudson Geigh anyways... LOL

Never been to San Francisco, so I couldn't say.  Provincetown is the Bohemian town on this coast.

I always liked them, similar style to the GS but kicked up a notch. I'd take that trade...

When I get home from work I'll call him and take it for a ride. I'll see how I like it.

You'll love it- if not for that nice V-twin gumble, tossability and comfortable riding position, then for the SSSA  :thumb:

Oh come on Srinath, you have to admit that SSSA looks pretty damn cool.  Especially on the Monster S2R 800! :thumb:

I think Srinath got dumped by a Hawk GT before. That is the only thing that could explain his unreasonable bitterness towards such a cool bike. :icon_razz:
