Strong Gas Smell on start up and at stops

Recently ive notices a quite strong gas smell when at stops and after initial start up.

Ive searched everywhere on the bike and cant find a leak anywhere, the tank doesnt even have rust inside it.  is this normal?  I dont remeber smelling it when i was first riding it. 

Ive stopped a few times in the last few days to see if there was a leak some where, I checked out the carbs, no gas on the out side of those, in fact no liquid anywhere on the engine or frame or anything!

I've the same problem as you and it started happening after I dropped the bike on it's right hand side, I can't remember it being a problem before. But then I only had it for one week, before I've dropped it

I havent dropped it.  thats whats baffeling.  No damage that would be an obvious cause.  its driving me nuts

I can also smell some burnt smell, like plastic/rubber/oil. I'm going take a loot at it on weekend, since I will have to pull fairing off from mine.

I had a similar problem.  Gas was leaking from a bad seal on the T where it goes into the carb, and getting on the engine. 

You have a gas leak, probably near (or from) the carburetor.  Try turning it on PRI and see if you can located it.  That's how I discovered mine.

COULD BE THE PETCOCK IN THE BOTTOM OF THE TANK LEAKING,sorry for the caps,if it's hot out the tank will vent vapor through the cap and right up your nose

Ill bet money thats it! been 85+ here and thats when I started smelling it!

I had a similar problem.  Gas was leaking from a bad seal on the T where it goes into the carb, and getting on the engine. 

You have a gas leak, probably near (or from) the carburetor.  Try turning it on PRI and see if you can located it.  That's how I discovered mine.

Tried all that,  Went as far as taking the tank off(it has a longer hose so i dont have to disconnect ) looked--no gas stain, liquid nothing, but ill bet its venting vapor out the cap as its been so hot here recently.

Mine smells like that occasionally also. Doesn't matter if it's a full tank or not. The smell is usually on HOT days ( >85 ) and there is no evidence of a leak.

Seems like its only venting, or maybe the junky carbs losing fuel into the air filter. Don't know or care so long as there isn't evidence on the crankcase or other nether regions.

Since I'm from Australia it's pretty cold at the moment, 8C which is around 45F.

I will have a good look on weekend where it's leaking, when I dropped the bike fair bit of fuel spilled, but I've been told that this is normal.

It's been in the upper 80's to upper 90's here.Get the fuel smell quite often.
