alright so i have a wire coming from the black cylinder  thing where the spark plug wire goes into, i followed the wire back from the right black cylinder where the spark plug wire goes to and it has an "L" shaped wire connector with an orange w/ white stripe and a blue wire going to it, that "L" shaped connector is unplugged where does it go? anyone know?

makaveli2502

can someone please help who knows where the "L" shaped connector goes to? it comes out by the batter and the rectifier.. if that helps

makaveli2502

ok well i figured out that the "L" shaped connector that has an orange and white stripe wire is for the blinker solenoid. but there is a black and yellow wire that goes to a black box thing by the battery on the left side. the black and yellow striped wire comes from the spark plug thing. anyone know why it wont spark?

makaveli2502

well i dont know where the problem is coming from.. its starting to piss me off. i need help

makaveli2502

well this wiring thing is kicking my ass and i kind of want to give up, but i want to ride again so bad!!  :icon_rolleyes:

Sound to me like the coils are not connected correctly to me. Do a search for  "GS500E wiring diagram" and see what turns up.

makaveli2502

i did and how coulld they not be connected correctly? and where are the coils?

coll0412

The coils are locatd below the tank, and above the valve cover, they are mounted to both the right and left side frame rails. Just follow the spark plug wires up and you will find them

makaveli2502

they are connected right. just like they've always been connected. i've never messed with them. i dont know whats wrong

makaveli2502

oh and also, there is no spark in either plugs so i  dont think its the coils. like i said i did an engine swap of my 05 engine (seized up) and put an 89 engine in (gs550e engine) fits nicely, but i dont know whats going on with all this none sparking. wires connected wrong when i put the wire on maybe? keep in mind some of the wires are different colors then they were back then. and under the right engine cover or timing cover or ignition cover whatever its called there are these black things that screw in (2 screws) to the plate and wires coming from them going to the back of the bike, on the 89 it has 2 of those things on the 05 i only saw 1 is this correct? and can this be a problem and why its not sparking?

hmmmnz

i have put wiring diagrams in the wiki,
do you guys not even use the wiki??

Seems likely. 1 rotor lobe and 2 pickups on the older version, 6 rotor lobes and 1 pickup on the newer version..

Do you have the rotor and that plate with the sensors from your old engine?

You need to swap the electonic ignition pickup from you 2005 motor and attach it to the 1989 Motor. The ignigtion pick and stuff changed I believe in '04+ models

makaveli2502

what about the computer on the left side? Should i put the 89 computer on    would that make it spark?

coll0412

YOu have two options

1=Easy Option,
Take the 1989 ignition components out of the 1989 engine and then put the 2005 ignition componets on the 1989 Motor. This allows you to use the existing and wired in 2005 CDI box(ignition box)

2. The hard way
Swap the 2005 CDI box for the 1989 box and retrace the wiring to ensure that it hooks up the same(99% sure it doesn't)

You need to use the rotor, pickup and ignition module of the same generation motor. 89-02/3 are the same and 04+ are the same. Mixing electrical components generally will not work. The motors are mechanically the same but electrically not the same.
Common sense in not very common.

What are you doing about the lack of oil cooler connections on the 89 motor?

makaveli2502

what do you mean lack of oil cooler connection? So what all do i need to transfer to make this work right?

Does your 05 have an oil cooler? I have not seen if you have a faired bike or not. Not sure of your location. I am not familiar if the 03+ non-US non-faired 'E' models have an oil cooler.

The oil cooler addition to the 04+ motors has some internal plumbing that is cast into the cases. Something that is not transferable to an older motor.

makaveli2502

so basically it would be best to part out the bike?  since its not going to work
