bike starts to bog down and shut off..

when i'm running the bike pretty hard on the throttle  and i'm in high rpm's in high gears  my bike bogs down and shuts off. when i wait a minute it runs again but starts to do the same thing again. anyone heard of this? (i swapped out my 05 engine with the 89 550e engine cause the 05 500 engine seized)

89 550E?Is it the 550E 4 cylinder?From 89 till now the only engine the GS came with is the 500 which is actually 487cc.Any way sounds like you are leaning out on top end.Try switching the frame petcock to pri.If you have an aftermarket air filter,exhaust,or both,you have to rejet or it will lean out and cause that problem.Has the engine had the diy or ignition rotor advance done?This is all my weary mind can think of right now.

sounds like a good idea. so i should switch it to prime? no its a 2 cylinder.  but it sucks cause i want to be able to fly but it wont let me lol  i dont know what it is

and i already have it rejetted. the dyno jet  jets. how do i make it unlean? or richer

firstly i'd like to see some pics of a 550cc in a normal GS 500.

then, you'll like to know about the petcock issues. you can use the search to read up on it.

if you've swapped a 550 in, then fixing the petcock issues should be a breeze ;)

what will messing with the petcock do?

fyi....the GS550 is a 4 cylinder...you have a GS500 motor.

Hopefully you did install the lower 2 bolts on the removable frame rail.
Common sense in not very common.

i second that on the bolts.

dgyver could he have a bad ground in the ignition causing a loss in power on top end?This is kinda rare I know,but it happen on a honda cr I had.

The petcock thing.The petcock can be restrictive on top end,if the vacumme diaphram isn't working properly it won't allow enough fuel into the carb bowls.

dgyver,correct me if I'm wrong.I believe you can remove the diaphram and run without it.Unsure if this effects use of reserve.The prime position bypasses the diaphram.

like two inches right of the brake pedal on the pic above. bottom of the frame rail.

You can remove the diaphram but the vacuum port has to be plugged and one of the ports of the inside parts has to be plugged. There is a thread on this.

After a couple more looks at the photo:

Frame bolts, already mentioned. Where are they ?  :o

Fuel line just after the filter. It looks kinked -  :o

Maybe you should post some more shots of the bike befor something bad happens ?
