Purchased a Joe Rocket Atomic jacket yesterday. I felt unsafe without something like this on. Probably the best money spent so far. Anyone out there have one of these? I have always heard good things about them.

Had mine for a little over a year. I think that it was a good investment due to the fact that I wore it with the vents open on 90+ degree days (A little toasty) and with a fleece and the zip-in vest down into the low 30's. Good wind protection.

The only thing that I'd do differently is use the second button on the collar when I had the balaclava tucked into the jacket. I stretched the hell out of it using the "tight" setting and now it will never be as tight as it was before last winter.

I've been wearing an Atomic that I borrowed for about the last 2 months.  I'm in So. California by the beach.  It's a little warm during the day but usable.  At night it's perfect with the vents open.  I give it 4/5 also.

Two days ago I got a Joe Rocket Phoenix.  It's the mesh one.  After Saturday's ride, where a friend of mine did a 25mph hi-side with out the launch.  He just kinda fell on the ground after the rear tire let go and went around.

The jacket save his left shoulder from getting much more that the bruse he got.  Tore the shoulder pad some but did it's job well.  He was glad to have on his Joe Rocket Blaster boots too, if not, he would have had a severly rashed left ankle where it got caught under the bike for just a moment.

I would not want to go down at 50+ with this jacket (the Phoenix). The Atomic makes me feel much safer.

Thanks for the info. Sounds good. I will be glad when it gets here. I think they look cool as well.

I've got this jacket too, can't add much to what's been said already.  I just didn't dig the mesh jackets.  I'm comfortable into the low 90's as long as I keep moving, and I imagine with the vest zipped in and the vents closed that I'll be able to wear it well into the fall and early spring without any problems.  It's good looking too, don't look like somebody out of biker boyz in it.  Mine's red, which cheesily enough matches my bike.

Note that it's no good in the rain, I got caught in a nasty thunderstorm yesterday and the jacket got pretty well soaked.  It dried out quick enough once I got home and hung it up, but I was pretty wet underneath.

I was wearing my old JR Atomic jacket during my recent sub-orbital flight.  When the S-10 clipped my rear while I was turning right, I was launched high side to the left.  Landed mostly on my left shoulder and the impact broke my left collar bone.  I think the shoulder would have been damaged more seriously without the JR jacket.  I weigh 240# and will be 71 next week, so i may be a bit more fragile than some of you.

I will not ride again w/o a JR on.  Bought a JR Meteor a couple months ago also.  I am comfortable in the Atomic while moving at temps up to about 90F.  The Meteor is comfortable up to about 70F and I wear it when weather permits.  Even a t-shirt only is too hot when stalled in traffic when 90F out.

I also was wearing Levi jeans during the accident and the knees were torn out when I rolled following impact and my knees were badly skinned.  I will be considering Draggin Jeans in addition to my JR's for next years mountain romps.  WEAR YOUR SAFETY GEAR!

Brought my bike home last Sat and checked her over.  Insurance company will probably total, but I will fix her up shortly and be riding again while the insurance stuff drags on.  Ordered parts online from Ron Ayers last Sat night to get her going again.

Will probably sneak out for a little putt this coming weekend on the old CM400A if ya promise not to tell my wife.  Badly in need of a two wheeled fix and don't wanna forget how to ride.

Here's a pic of my bruises.  And nobody under 70 is permitted to snicker at my general physical condition.      :x

Jeff,
Thanks for that Info.  :thumb:

I was under the impression that is was rain proof.  Glad to know this before I hit the rain.

That's what I get for thinking!  My dad always said "There you go thinking again, everytime you think, you weaken that nation."  :?

Ouch!
Glad you are okay.  :thumb:
Thanx for the disclaimer above! It made me laugh more than your "general physical condition" ever could.

I got the solid black one. It is supposed to be delivered today but I have not been home to see.

Glad your ok Jack. I am convinced the safety jacket is a good idea. Take care and you will be riding again in no time.

personally i like the reacter jacket.  i don't own one, but i think it's a really good looking jacket.  has mesh body, with perferamted leather shoulders and sleaves.  armor pads are in the shoulds and sleaves, as well as in the back.  it seems like a good combo of air circulation (what with the mesh and perferations), and protectiong as where you normally hit when you land is made of leather.  i'm thinking about buying one for myself.

The atomic came today. I love it. Sturdy and good looking sucker as well :thumb: . Can't wait to try it out!

Since I'm catching up with Jack, plus I break really easily,  I always wear highway gear. I have a Dayglo yellow and purple Meteor(look at the sun and close your eyes for a close approximation) but ended up with a Teknics Chicane too...really like the security of leather, perforated  which is good the few weeks we get high 20's Celsius + (80+). Used, on EBay for 103 bucks.
My wife has the JR Ballistic which is good in summer without the liner and vents open. Probably too traditional for most.
Now if anybody has a pair of Chicane pants for sale.....that would be perfection.
PS www.Tonker has a sale on JR.

I've been debating between leather and textile for a while, I'm pretty sure I'm going to buy the JR speedway jacket and probably grab an atomic also to wear when its really hot out

JasonB

I have and atomic and love the versitility from 50's to 90's that you can wear it. My only gripe is the rain, you will get wet if its a downpour bu a drizzle isnt too bad. The atomic and reactor has the insert that you can buy thats waterproof but nothing for the atomic. Too bad there isnt something you can put on the jacket to help the water resistance.

I wear jeans around town and when I am not going over 35ish around locally but on any trip or if its a tad cooler I have some Heinz Gericke leather pants that I love.

Good point, let me restate that "I can't wait to wear it!" Trying it out would be bad. :)

I have the atomic in solid black as well.

I put on the atomic today and went for a ride. I opened the vents and it flowed air through for sure. Still hot this afternon at 91 degrees. Will love this thing on evening rides. Being a little hot is better than the hot pavement peeling your skin off! I feel safer with it on :thumb:
