Yeah, so I wrecked my GS last year, and need a new tach (Among other things).

I was just wondering if tachs from other bikes would be compatable with the GS?????

Maybe, if the other bike also has a 17" front rim. Maybe. Preferably from  another Suzuki. And, one that comes with the same size tire stock.

I dont like to tach about it...
Never mind he said tach not speedo...
The GSXR tachs are the same meaning they will work fine but wont fit. The katana also same thing. The GS tachs aren't too hard to come by. That may be the best option. I have some broken tachs and if you can open and close one of these you may be able to fix it. However I want to open and fix mine as well. If the glass is what is broken you can cut some lexan and put it in.
So I guess what exactly is wrong with yours.
Cool.

I have a gs tach that works perfectly.  has a big scrape on the upper part of the housing.  it's just cosmetic.  still has all the wiring and everything.  talk to my dad (user name:  Delta88 ) since he's the actuall owner if you're interested.

The GS uses a mechanical tach. Some of the older GSs also use a mechanical one, those *might* fit.

First generation GSXRs and I think Kan-o-tunas used electronic tachs that were individual instruments instead of the integrated "pods" now used.  You can graft one of them on to a GS by running a wire from one of the coils up and to the wires on the GSXR tach (I can't remember which ones off hand). Its not perfect, at higher rpms and vibrations the needle tends to get a bit spastic, I think because the signal gets dirty...

You then have to remove the old tach worm gear and cable from the cylinder head and block off the port with a flanged 6mm nut and bolt.

You are probabaly better off just getting Mr. Slush's dad's tach.

Hey, my speedo is all cracked on the side but still works.  Anybody have a housing (scrapes don't bother me) that is solid that I can buy off of them?

You can....Locate one of your posts, and look at the top right corner.  You should see a little "delete" icon thingy that doesn't display on posts made by other users.

Try it, you'll like it!
