CHAIN %$^#@$ - HELP

Ok - so I pulled the old chain off my 89 gs, and scooped out 17 yars worth of chain lube and crap...counted the links - 55 -

cut my new chin (RK racing chain) to 55 and now its too F-ing short

How can i get this thing on...am i doing someethign wrong???

Did you make sure that you move the rear axle forward as far as you can. It also 110 Links for the stock GS, but same difference

yes  i have loosed the adjuters as sar as possible  - and its 110 links...

How many teeth on the sprockets?  Standard is 16 teeth on the front and 39 teeth on the rear.
407,400 miles in 30 years for 13,580 miles/year average.  Started riding 7/21/84 and hung up helmet 8/31/14.

 You could try takein off one end of that bar on the brake & swing arm,  My wheel wouldn'nt go all the way on the brake side unless i loosend or took one end off.

39 / 16 - stock

**plus i picked up a new front sprocket and it has a shoulder on it, and the original on my bike oes not ---takin' thant back, too!

you loosened the adjusters, but how far did the wheel actually move in, if you counted the links correctly it should work. If you lay your old chain next to your new one is it any shorter?

What's with all the "*#@*#" stuff in people's titles?  what exactly is the difference in that and cursing in the titles?  It's unnecessary.

you  may have to take the axle out of the wheel to get it to line up right...i had to do that with my TL on occasion.  Also, never cut a chain, ever, never ever cut a chain before you've wrapped it around your sprockets.  You never cut a chain by link count or measure.  You cut a chin by where it fits.

*there was 17 years of chain lube and crp inside the sprocket cover so it was a good thing to clean it out.
